Iowa v Northern Illinois Prediction Thread

To stay true, I predicted the offense will score 3 TD's in this one
-- 1st one will be to CJ Fed on a nice lob to the corner with 2nd & goal from the 8 (finally)!
-- 2nd one will be Weisman (with 45 yards on 4 carries during the drive).
-- 3rd will be Rudock on a 1 yard sneak (it will take 2 tries).

Other prophecies:
-- 1st series will be a 3 and out, maybe grind out 1 first down by Weisman, then 3 and out (1 false start, 2 overthrown incompletions and a desparation jail break attempt to Powell that comes up 5 yards short.) The collective sigh / groan echoing from Kinnick will be heard as far as Grinnell and the QCA.

-- NIU will lead 7-3 late first quarter.

-- After a forced fumble by Carl Davis (recovered by Ott), Iowa takes the lead mid-2nd and doesn't look back.

-- Davis has a great all-around game with 2 pass deflections, 1 hurry, 1 sack and 1 tfl.

Final, 23 (Meyer misses 1 pat) - 13.

Iowa 21
NIU 10

Iowa's ball control keeps finally keeps the D, and more importantly Lynch, off the field.

Weisman with 101 and a TD
CJF 4 catches and a TD
Ruddock with a one yard running TD to seal the deal.

31-20 Hawks
Since I'm never even close to being right, I went with a new tactic. Initially I tried to reason it out. Loss of starters, chronic slow starts, and go with a low offensive display of 17-14. But since I'm always wrong, and have no clue, I figured I'd go with a some random offensive output wild guess based on nothing that would make us feel a little more confident about the season or something.

But, I'm sure it's some sort of Marty McFly self-fulfilling fate thing and my original 17-14 prediction will be right. But, now, by saying that will I be wrong and it'll be 31-20?

Someone call that Michio Kaku. He could straighten this all out for me.

Iowa 21, NIU 17

Lots of speed-up no-huddle for the first couple of possessions, then KF slows it down in the heat.

Iowas O line wears down NIU D mid way through the second quarter in 100 degree temps. Iowas stable of running backs stay fresh and run wild all afternoon, gaining over 300 yards on the ground. Iowa wins 31-17

Not sure I care about the score, just hope it's watchable (unlike last year).

27-17 hawks. IThink its a slow game to start and then the hawks o line takes over the game in the 4th quarter.

17-10 Iowa.

Offense struggles against a decent defense. Iowa QB's throw more picks than TD's, but Iowa's running game smothers NIU down the stretch. Iowa special teams also perform well. We can punt with the best of them!

Iowa 31
Northern Illinois 17

Last year iowa got 4 fgs and one touchdown. With a Better offense they get 4 TDs and one FG.

I think we will jump on them early. Pound the ball probley take 3-4 shots down the field in the first half. Hold on in the second half. Hawks 34- NIU 21

Iowa 36
NIU 20

Iowa wins toss and defers to second half. Iowa stops NIU's first drive with a 3 and out. Iowa's first play Weisman breaks through NIU's D for an 80 yard TD. KF emboldened by this erects a hammock on the sideline and orders an iced tea and one of the hotter cheerleaders to fan him with her pom poms.

Hawks 27
NIU 16

-We power run early-with success,we test the passing game after they start to load the bos, take only a few downfield shots but timing still needs work. We start quick tempo, have a couple mishaps but it works....we slow down in 2nd half due to heat
-hopefully we see backups in 2nd....
-Defense is solid but gets a little tired from the heat-we get a couple pleasant surprises, but still a little raw

I think this is a statement game for Ferentz, Davis and co. Iowa comes out firing on all cylinders and NIU is overconfident. Iowa rolls 48 - 17.
