My friends in Omaha seem to think that Nebraska will have an easy time in the Big Ten.
Some do, and some don't. It's such a crap shoot, you never really know. Everyone thought that PSU was gonna be good last year, and no one gave much though to MSU, but things turned out differently. A few years back, no one thought that Texas Tech would be in the MNC hunt, yet they only lost that one game to Oklahoma. No one expected much out of Oklahoma St. last year, yet they were a good team. Each conference will have it's ups and downs.
My point with my post is to emphasize that they will not have an easy time. Over the past 10 years, they have barely kept up with Iowa.
Point well taken, however, things have changed in Lincoln, new coach, new AD, new facilities. What happened in 2004 probably doesn't have much effect on what happens in the future, and DONU has been rebuilding. It still is, only time will tell.
Iowa was probably the 3rd or 4th best program in the Big Ten over that ten year time period. Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan, because of their resources and recruiting base, have the ability to dominate everybody. Wisconsin also has become a big-time national player. Michigan St. also has a huge recruiting base, as does Illinois. NW is always dangerous and hard to beat, as any Iowa fan can attest.
Another good point, but with all due respect, Nebraska has more in common geographically with Iowa, but it has more in common historically with PSU, tOSU, and Michigan regarding football.
Will it equal us dominating the Big 10 as we did the Big 8/12 in the 90's, doubtful, but who knows. PSU is up and down, Michigan is down, hopefully, DONU is getting back to where we want to be.
I think it is going to be murderer's row for Nebraska. They will have good seasons from time to time, but they went from the frying pan into the fire by moving from the Big 12 to the Big 10.
The next 2 years will be interesting the way the schedule has set up. And with all the moves on our coaching staff, we may have some growing pains. But as poorly as our offense played in the last half of the season, Nebraska fans can't help but think that it will get better.
Frankly, setting your sights on beating Iowa isn't going to get it done for the Big Red fans. You have to beat the Ohio States, Michigans, Penn States and Wisconsins to return to national prominence.
Agreed.
I don't see it happening, at least not now with the current Nebraska coaching staff.
Disagree, alot of us are excited to see how this turns out. We have some damn good coaches down there. We could be wrong, only time will tell.
