Iowa Still Has A Shot at At Large Bid

I'm pretty sure its impossible for Iowa to play Illinois in the first game. Their first round opponent with be either Ohio State, Indiana, or Nebraska.

Changing it to Ohio State or Indiana does not change anything. We don't want to see Nebraska, our RPI drops to 62 with 2 wins in the BTT.

Also our 2nd round opponent is now most likely Wisconsin.

It takes a higher rank than 68 to be on the bubble. I don't believe an at-large lower than 56 has ever made the tourney. As a general rule, you want to be in the 40's to be on the bubble.

Not anymore it doesn't, remember 68 teams now make the field. Heck they still consider Clemson to be a bubble team, that one is a real head shaker as they are 5-12 in the ACC.

I don't get the Clemson thing at all.

Teams from the 60's have made the dance, and Syracuse got in last year in the 70's. Supposedly the RPI is less of a factor now, too. I think what you really need to do is compare bubble team resumes.. Looking at Lunardi's groups in the "first four out" and "next four out", Iowa is comparable. So I think there's more work to do, but the Hawks are within striking range.

The crazy thing is we're doing this with Jok struggling. If he can get hot again we could be seriously good.

Yep, that's the most encouraging part of it all.

If Jok can find his shot again, wow - this team could really be dangerous (more than they are now). Maybe he's still not 100% or whatever but Jok is just.... off. He's been missing a lot of shots where he's normally money in the bank.

Hope he finds his stroke again here ASAP.

Jok struggles with someone playing him tight...which is what players are doing now...don't worry about his drive to the basket...won't beat you often...get in his face, frustrate him. Player on Jok...told to not help out much...stick with him, make others beat us. Teams learn...

We have some young horses, gamers, to back him up now...

I never think a last shot from Iowa is going in but I really thought that last shot by Jok was gunna fall.

.. .. I think that would get Iowa pretty close to being in, a 10-8 conference record and 20-14 over all with a 6 game winning streak at the end would look good to the committee.
I agree 110%. I said something very similar in another thread. It all starts with with the Penn State game. Win that one, win 2 in the BTT, and maybe .. just maybe .. we're dancing.

GO HAWKS!!!

I've gotten so used to those shots NOT going in, that I just about literally hurt myself when I reacted to JBo's 3 going down. Awesome.

That was a great look by Pete - he normally makes those.

I know, I know, I have been posting this link all over the threads and I have watched it five times but I enjoy it every time.

never get old though.

What gets me the most is the frame at the beginning, I thought we were done at that point. We were down 9 with 4:12 to play, teams don't come back from that against Wisconsin in their arena.

Gotta close the deal vs. Penn St. though. Just seems like a game this young team could lose. Better have the heads on straight Sunday morning.

This one worries me a little.. Possible let down/trap game, and seems like Iowa historically kinda plays like garbage against PSU.. I won't breathe until this one's over.

Never, getting into the tournament would be terrific experience for this young team even if it is a 1 and done.

I have been won over, after watching the Maryland and Wisconsin game.

We want the NCAA, with this recent momentum.

Yep, although it won't be the worst thing in the world if they end up in the NIT. But a NCAA tournament bid would look better for the program moving in the right direction, even if it's a 1 and done. High School players don't want to come to Iowa to play in the NIT.

The game on sunday scares the shit out of me. You've had two huge road wins, now you're hearing NCAA bubble hype and BTT seeding talk. Its easy to look ahead and lose focus. Penn stats swept Illinois this year and beat Maryland, Minnesota and Michigan State as well. It's not a lock by any means.

Also, I still remember 2 years ago when 5 seed Iowa laid an egg against 12 seed penn state in the BTT.

You have made many posts about Iowa's late game collapses having to do with the personnel and not the coach, etc. I have agreed with you. And the evidence to support this position is beginning to see light IMO.
