Iowa Settles & Pays $6.5 Million For Lawsuits

Gary Barta should be fired with cause. No buyout, no "retirement". Fired. Zero dollars. Goodbye now. He has not only managed his department poorly, he has turned a completely winnable case into a multi-million dollar loss and painted a bullseye on the university for SJWs for years to come because he couldn't bother to do some paperwork to back up firing two people. No settlement. Fired for gross incompetence. Buh bye.

That's the cost all together. Lawyers get more $$ than either individual in this case.

"The school agreed in settlements released Friday to pay Meyer $2.33 million, Griesbaum $1.49 million and $2.68 million to the Des Moines law firm that represented them."

I don't see Barta surviving this. I also see a "watering down" of the revenue generating sports at Iowa. What you will see is an acceleration down the path of mediocrity.

If I wanted to bake some cookies for Barta and the staff that are being treated so unfairly, where should I bring them?

Spot on. What a clown. If you are going to pay, you pay before the university looks like a pile of crap being drug through court and getting your ass handed to you in a 8-0 verdict.

I don't think that one is on Barta; more on UofI's legal dept..... Ultimately, Barta's fault though.

Right. They would have reviewed the evidence in the case. It was not Barta saying don't settle. It was the wizards managing the case. How little documentation there was and thought they could win it???

1. From what I've read, "little" documentation would be a generous characterization. 2. Must have. Maybe they thought putting Ferentz and Brands on the stand would be all that it would take.

I can agree with that with the legal department. Yet Barta is the head man that failed to document properly so that this even came to that. With proper documentation an attorney would have look at her case and told her she actually has no case. Instead he is to much of a freaking patsy to fire her when she deserved it for insubordination, or for giving her needed bad reviews when coaches were complaining about her. He botched this long before it got to the court room.

Maybe, University will sue Barta for funds lost?
Seriously, if he's still AD come July 1st, well.. I just don't know what to think. Yikes!

Don't sue him, just fire him with cause. Tell him if he wants to take it to court, go right ahead, Iowa will hire Jane's attorneys and light him up yet again in court.

Well when it's all said and done I guess this is kind of getting off easy. We will pay the money and start the rebuilding of our coffers. If Kirk makes the playoffs we get this money back in 1 game so I guess Kirk just needs to lace his boots up and go to work. I feel like Kirk is at least partially culpable in the whole Meyer situation. I bet he did not take kindly to being marginalized by Meyer. I bet he was pressuring Barta to make changes. Time to make it back Kirk.

The person that should be fired is the one that decided to have the Iowa Attorney General's office represent the University of Iowa. That made it like Morningside vs. Alabama in football.

Decision can't be licked by the plaintiffs.

Guys on the radio think this move will save Barta's job. They also mentioned that the money the two lesbo's will get would have been used somewhere in the athletic dept. now it won't. Meyer and Griesbaum better never show their ugly faces in Iowa City again.

i was just about to cut a big check to the athletic department but then i heard they settled this suit instead of taking it to the supreme court and arguing that their rights were violated and not the other people but now i wont because its too late

This was a classic match up: Entrenched 50's Era White Men vs. New Age Lesbians. The old school boys never knew what hit them. Like a pass on first down, this whole experience had to be pretty shocking to Gary and KF. I have to admit, if I were a lesbian I'd be sending resumes to all the athletic directors over 55 or 60 in America...oh, and to Fox News. You don't even have to get your toys dirty...they settle to stop the public image carnage.

In other news, according the milk carton I just bought at the store, the University of Iowa Human Resources Department is still missing and unaccounted for.

Should of settled and not went to court. No matter how insubordinate she may have been she had about an 80% chance winning because she was a woman and 100% chance of winning because she was gay. I have no problem with gay people it's just that some of them when everything doesn't go their way always have that card to pull out.

The race is on between Iowa City and Madison on who can become the "Berkely of the Midwest" first.
Too close to call at this point.
Hopefully it's bye-bye Barta time.
