Iowa Safeties...

Iowa safeties need to improve. Miller and Lowdermilk's game hasn't looked all that great in the first three games.

I thought when Nico Law was in last year he played decent. At least better than what I've seen from Lowdermilk this year.

Looks like this is Iowa's soft spot on the D this year.

They're both slow, but at least Lowdermilk can hit like a man. Miller.......................well, I'm betting at least half this board could hit harder than he can.

Lowdermilk is playing pretty well, IMO.

What has anybody seen from Law that would make them say he warrants more playing time than Lowdermilk?

I'm confident that people want him to play simply to use and start puns with his name.

He makes a big hit and he is "laying down the Law".

He gets beat on a route that player "broke the Law".

If he is having a solid season and becomes a leader he "enforces the Law'.

Nico Law, here to serve and protect.

He works a player and they say the player just went to "Law school".

And they'd go on and on and on. So, beyond catchy puns, I haven't really seen a whole lot. I'm sure he is a good kid, just hasn't shown a lot.

Lowdermilk has been decent, no complaints there. What scares me about Miller is he's completely lost at least 2-3 times per game. The better teams will capitalize on those situations.

He's going to the Iowa Practice hall of fame, along side Jordan Canzeri and CJ Fedorowitz.

BOOM! Helmet off!

I thought last week in the fourth quarter was the perfect time for FERENTZ FAVORITE PLAY OMG THE INTENTIONAL SAFETY. I mean, we had a 13 point lead and couldn't stop an onside kick, why not run Weisman right into the endzone for two? This would totally mess up the end of game stat sheet and ruin his (W)Heisman Trophy campaign, but man why we couldn't run a whole bunch of these. Cyclone fans still wouldn't accept that we had gone "safe" at the end though.

The safeties take a lot of crap from the fans, and I think rightfully so. Lowdermilk has had some good moments, but has still looked out of position a few times. Every time I focus on Miller, I wonder, "what the hell is he doing?" I heard him on the MO. St. post game talk about how he baited the QB into the INT. He sounded like a real confident guy. If I were him, I would be a little more humble considering how much he has been burned over his career.

Wish we had one.

My guess is you'd be in the half that can NOT hit harder if you feel a need to call out an individual player on how hard he does/doesn't hit.

Iowa has given up 8 pass plays of over 30 yards in 3 games. That's all you need to know about Iowa's safety play. There's no gray area, it's been awful to the surprise of nobody.

Qb needs time to throw downfield. Seems most have all day against us lately. Good pass rush= good safety play.

Under KF, Iowa's secondary has always needed room er, less room (as in press coverage every once in a while) for improvement...

True. Amazing though, all the Db's and safeties from Iowa in the NFL or were on teams..
Greenwood, Sash, Paschal, Considine, Fletcher, Spivey, Godfrey, etc. Must have been poorly coached at Iowa?

Its not that black and white that you can just blame big pass plays on safety play.

The 2 plays that come right to mind is the long TD pass from Lynch and ISU's first TD last Saturday.

Lomax got burnt against NIU and there is no way to know unless you heard the defensive call if there was supposed to be a safety back there.

Lowery completely whiffed on an arm tackle attempt on ISU's first touchdown and allowed a huge run after the catch. Nothing a safety can do about that.
