Iowa Receiver Challenges

The same system almost every team plays on Sundays? Nah why would they, we all know good ball players are out for a degree and not to learn and improve on the systems played on Sundays.

The fact is they're not coming to Iowa. Apparently, they aren't enthralled with Iowa's system, whether it deigns to be like an NFL system or not. Ferentz's conservative implementation of his offense is just not attractive - the absence of top-flight recruits is the most compelling evidence of that.

I have hope for next years receivers. I would have even more hope however for them in the kok system vs the derp Davis system though. I think KMM has a good year, tevaun smith plays well, CJFED actually produces, and an unknown comes onto the scene.

No, it is a difference of opinion. Your inability to tell the difference is what is ******* stupid.
I defy you to speak with certainty about anything KF does besides chew gum and snort.
I don't think he does target WR as a priority. He offers them. Wow. BFD.
Sure he'd love to get a 5* WR. But he can run his scheme just as well without them. So he spends his time and effort elsewhere. That why we don't get great WR's at UI.
JD asked for our thoughts on Iowa's "WR Challenges" not who you think is stupid.

Dude, you implied KF doesn't make it a priority to get the best possible talent at the WR position cause he doesn't think he needs or could use it. That's ******* stupid. This isn't a difference of opinion. I'm sorry that ribbbed you wrong
as I said there wasn't a nice way to say it.

Just thinking aloud, does this have anything to do with a KF desire to put the best-available athletes on D rather than O?

My thoughts are I am tired of hearing it's harder to recruit at Iowa. I don't argue that but that is why Iowa pays our coach more than other coaches and we invest in facilites that are now top tier. We have a fan base that is easlily a top 20 fan base if not Top 10. So where is lthe problem? The coach. He is responsible for recruiting. He is responsible for selling the program. He is responsible for the playcalling. The problem is this and nobody talks about it. What is the University's Return they expect to get for their invesetment. I truly believe the university is happy with just selling tickets and producing a fun college atmosphere for their students and alumni. You have that at Iowa and 7 and 8 wins season will keep it going. So are they getting their ROI? The answer is yes. Now if the University and GB expect to have BIG championships and NAtional Title hunts then no they are not but I do not believe that is the goal of Iowa and GB. Their goal is to produce a competiitve program, that is good entertainment, and produce soild student athletes. There is nothing wrong with that but the fan base needs to realize the truth.

How is Iowa any harder to recruit to than MN, IN, Il, NW or many many other colleges that have superior skill player talent? The "But its' hard to recruit to IA" is complete B.S.. The reason it is hard now, is because we suck and everyone sees it. Its' not like there is much positive outlook coming, and despite the obvious level of suck KF will keep right on doing what he is doing. All the poor teams in the B1G are passing us up because they have coaching staff's that have adapted to the game and understand what kids are looking for these days. If your a receiver why the hell would you come to Ia Now, at least under KOK you had 3-5 chances a game to go deep. Under GD we might as well only recruit tight ends, at least they would help in the run game. Face it we have hit a suck plateau and as long as KF is here 7-5 is probably the best we can expect and 50% wins against ISU at best. I have defended KF in the past and I still have respect for him as a person, but I can't argue logically for him anymore. It has gotten to the point where I no longer enjoy watching Ia football, which is one of the few things I used to look forward to.

He doesn't make it a priority. You see, you wouldn't have too much luck scoping for chicks that would be a hard 9 or 10, so you bottom feed on the 4's and 5's of the world with good personalities. That doesn't mean you wouldn't love to bag the occasional 7 or 8 or even a once in a lifetime 10, it just means that you aren't going to waste all your time on them.

Any receiver with talent that would consider Iowa would obviously be a major academic risk.

Herb Grigsby: Three-stars, message board legend Higby, left early

What are your thoughts?

My one and only thought is that I like and respect you even moar now because of the Higby reference.
Right on, JD. Right on. ;)

I think the lack of being able to recruit big-time WR recruits boils down to the system. When you think of Iowa, you think of a run-based team (even though our rushing offense has sucked overall for a long time now) that plays conservative and good on defense. And it doesn't help when we have hardly any history as far as NFL players go at the position. Also, as we all know, we're just lil' ole Iowa and it's almost impossible to recruit kids here.

My only hope is that Brian Ferentz saves the Iowa football program, because his Dad has his head so far up his own *** that it's not even funny. Get a freakin' clue, Kirk.

I think KMM is underated, and I look forward to him getting more looks. I also hope that Flemming plays offense, because with him Cotton and Smith I think it would be a serious speed upgrade on offense.

I don't know how to say this nicely, but this post perfectly sums up everything stupid with the current bag on KF crowd. I can speak with certainty that KF would love nothing more than to get a bunch of 5* WR recruits on a yearly basis. I know witb certainty we recruit those kind of players. And I know with certainty we dont get them often.

The though KF is happy recruiting lessor talented players, or intentionally does so just so he can build them up or put them in our system is just ******* stupid.

I can speak with certainty that EVERY coach in the country would love nothing more than to get a bunch of 5* WR recruits. Aren't I brilliant for making that statement?

I can't speak for Bloomington or Champaign but I have been to Evanstan and have lived in the TC metro area. NW and MN have far nicer campuses than Iowa. Minnesota's stadium is far nicer than Kinnick and its going to get better very soon when the Vikings move in for a few years.

Iowa City is flat out in the middle of nowhere. And comparing it downtown Minneapolis or suburban Chicago is so comical so I won't waste the time.

I don't want to make excuses for KF because I'm not real happy with his results lately but recruiting inner city or big city kids to Iowa City is no joke and a lot harder than people think.

I'm afraid not, or if you are it ain't solely for making that observation.

Fleming is going to play DB and Iowa could use his speed on defense just *** easily as they could on offense
speedy WR are coming
Mabin from Florida 6'2 4.4 40
Wilson from Ohio 6'2 4.5 40
Kittle 6'4 from OK 6'4 4.5 40
these players are all RS'ing this year
committed but not yet signed
Willies from Illinois 6'3 4.4 40
Harris from Misouri 5'11 4.4 40
Michell from Missouri 6'0 4.45 40
there are 2 things that they all have in common.. the 1st is they are from outside the state of Iowa,
the 2nd is they all 4.5 or faster 40 time than what Iowa has been able to recruit
they do recruit the top 100 WR's
LaQuan Treadwell 6'3 4.5 40 the #1 WR in the country by Rivals is being recruited be Erb, but shows no interest in the hawks
Cory Smith JUCO WR 4* 6'0 4.5 40 is showing interest in Iowa, from Mississippi
kinda shoot the theory about both recruiting JUCO'S or high level recruits now doesn't it..
its one trhing to recruit them its another to get them to commit,
short of CHEATING . just how are they to get these kids to commit

Cataract surgery is quite safe and affordable nowadays.

Minnesota's stadium is far nicer than Kinnick and its going to get better very soon when the Vikings move in for a few years.

Without doubt, the nicest of all stadiums with average gametime temps of one thousand degrees below zero.

And just when I thought that your posting skills were getting better, you go and do this, Hurb....

why is it stupid each name with height and speed are listed seperately
each point is in its own line, clearly seperated, and just answer my question SHORT OF CHEATING, how is KF and this staff supposed to land these kids.
and there is a clear rebuttal to the remark about not recruiting JUCO'S, I WILL SAY IT AGAIN , RECRUITING THEM AND GETTING THEM TO COMMIT.. " ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS"!
