Iowa Receiver Challenges

cheating is paying the players like Cam Newton, or Bush for USC, and all those time are electronic timed from camps,, you do know what electronic means don't you
Also all those kids are True WR out of hs and don't need to be switched like so many players that come to Iowa have to be and for once they are also all 3*'s vs 2*'s.
but way to **** on something positive about Iowa recruiting,
its like you can't stand anything positive reguarding Iowa FB RECRUITING

Ok I agree you dont pay them. Since you like numbers, there are what 120 or so D1 programs? There are over 18,000 high schools, how do they look at all those? In 2010 Barta cut the budget. SOOOOOOOO what has been done to change with the times and budget cut? Wait for a kid or scout to send a video? Use the same scouting service as the other 120 schools? Now with schools recruiting jr's it has become even harder.
I have an idea and one I think is darn good, I have only shared it with one person (so I will know if it leaks). Now it is not cheating, but over a time frame of 4 years, it would have a huge impact. Maybe I should email KF, huh? Ah I am sure it would go to junk mail, right now he is pry getting a lot of emails he does not read.

With KF's plan to fire Soup, was this post done upon KF's request, or just with the knowledge of the impending removal in an attempt to try and make the firing more palatable to fans here?

link or proof of this. as Soup is the lead recruiter in Michigan and has done very good job in getting kids out of Mibhigan

Our current group of receivers couldn't cut and separate from anyone all year, and none of them exhibited the ability to flat out run by anyone. Do we have anyone on the roster that could accomplish either of these things? The answer is yes, but our coaching staff seems unable to see beyond their noses to try them out on the field. Its been this way in the past, and it is this way at present.

Case in point -Torrey Campbell. Coming out of high school this guy was a high hurdles champion in FL and did well nationally as well. The guy is flat out a damn good athlete, just what Iowa needs at wide out. He is listed at 5-10, 185 or so. Decent size, but more importantly, FAST. And amazingly enough our coaching staff needn't go out and re-recruit him. Here is a guy capable of stretching a defense now, helping to eliminate our embarrassing offensive condition that sees defenses stack 11 guys within six yards of the line of scrimmage against us. They have no for fear of having someone on our team getting behind them.

The guy has wheels - everything else a receiver needs to be effective can be taught to them. This is just one example.

Other coaching staffs see the talents on their roster and make use of them in any way possible. Why does Iowa's present coaching staff not utilize him at WO? Sitting on the bench forever accomplishes nothing. Similar to never playing a back up QB. It makes little sense.

In answer to JD Miller's original point - why doesn't Iowa have good receivers? I would answer it is primarily a coaching issue, not a recruiting issue, not a "we can't get 5* players at Iowa" issue. The players are there - utilize them. Hell, any halfway respectable junior high school coach would do this. Why can't our 4 million dollar man try it for a change?

Torrey Campbell is a defensive back. He played some running back in high school, but never wide receiver. Pretty sure it would take more than a week of practices to teach him to be a wide receiver. Seems to me the recruiting problem is rooted in the lack of talent in Iowa. Iowa kids grow up being Hawk or Cyclone fans and we usually land the best of them. Minnesota kids grow up being Gopher fans, Wisconson kids are Badger fans, Illinois kids like their state schools etc. The home state schools pick the best. The warm weather schools swoop in and attract a bunch. Iowa is left to find a player who doesn't mind playing in a little cop infested town out in the middle of nowhere.... no night life, no girls in bikinis, freezing cold weather surrounded by white people....no problem!

Fry was never able to recruit stud WRs either. It's always been hard to get WR to come to Iowa. We recruited a 4* in Davis, but he turned out a dud..Player or coaching fault??

This is why I do not understand why you don't go the juco route and bring in talented players there that want to continue their career in the BIG.

I'm assuming the comment re: electronic times was directed at me, since I'm the only one who mentioned them outright. I know exactly what they are, which is why I mentioned that it was important they were electronically timed. Hand-held times you can basically add an addition .15 - .25 seconds to them to get actual speed. It's also why I mentioned the Brandon Wegher 40 time of 4.28...it was plainly obvious when he hit the field that he didn't have THAT kind of speed. It was also clear that the 4.28 was hand-timed fluff.

In Davis' case I believe that it has to be a little bit of both player and coach. Davis has the raw talent but KOK/Soup and now GD/Soup have to use him to where he could have show cased his talents on the field. Davis isn't a stop, catch, juke and then run guy. He is a downfield catch it in stride, jump or dive for it receiver. This system wasn't a very good fit for him. They needed to use him in the same drag routes and slant routes that they used to run with McNutt the last two years. Can't believe how many times they could have used him like McNutt at MSU in '09 in the redzone this year but instead they run up the middle or tried a line drive pass to the TE in the middle of coverage.

Dude, that is bad, even for you. Kids want to get a ship. The end. If the boys in IC are having trouble finding those kids, it is nobodys fault but their own.
