Marquette 86–81 to advance.
In 1955–56, as seniors, Iowa again won the Big Ten outright and advanced to the Final Four of the
1956 NCAA tournament. They defeated
Morehead State 97–83 and
Kentucky and Coach
Adolph Rupp 89–77 to advance to the Final Four. There, they defeated
Temple 83–76 to advance to the national championship game.
In the championship game, Iowa lost to the undefeated defending national champions — the Bill Russell-led San Francisco Dons by a score of 83–71.
