Iowa-Penn St. Kicking Off at Night

The game is on CBS. For some reason I was thinking Verne Lundquist and Pat Haden was their A team. Had to google it right quick to remind myself it was Nessler and Danielson.

Yes why is it on CBS? I know they had to do some funky things in 2023 because CBS still has the SEC afternoon game in 2023.

But does mean the Iowa-PSU game on CBS will going head to head against a Big Ten game on NBC at the exact same time? Or is the Big Ten game on NBC getting moved to the afternoon opposite the SEC game on CBS?

Best in the business is working on the gameplan right now. The offense will be there. Don't you worry.
To clarify, are you talking about the game plan for PSU or the game plan to try to score 75 against Utah State and Western Michigan to make up for the PSU shut out and keep the 25 ppg alive?

The offense will be better than last year, of that I have no doubt. But, that is saying almost nothing.

Excited to see how we measure up against PSU on the road at night. This is a veteran team. I am not expecting anything but a focused effort on both sides of the ball. Its gonna be a long Summer waiting for football to start up.

PSU is really good, but I don't think they have the horses to run away from Iowa like maybe OSU or Michigan. Again, Iowa has a very deep, talented and veteran group coming back on defense. They are strong up front and wicked talented in the secondary. The LB core is new, but the transfer kid has a lot of P5 starts under his belt. Famous last words, but I don't see PSU putting up much more than 24. Can the offense be just dangerous enough to match that for a chance to win? The pieces are there. We shall see.

If we had Ken O'Keefe running this particular offense it would be a foregone conclusion that we would be playing in Indy. With Brian at the helm I really don't know.

I know BF's offenses have been atrocious the last few years, but the reimagining of the KOK years on this board is astounding. KOK is a much more popular OC now than he ever was when he actually was the OC. :)

I honestly don't think KOK is much better or worse at playcalling than BF. When either has had a good QB, they have put serviceable offenses on the field. When they have had bad QB play, not so much. Neither is an offensive genius, but both can coach KF's old school, conservative system competently when they have the players.

Bagging on BF is fashionable these days. I get it. But, recall that in 2018 and 2020 his offenses ranked in the 40s nationally. A BF offense is CAPABLE of being slightly above average. We have seen it. Again, the pieces are there if they can get the OL right. Show some optimism!!!!! Its May.

To borrow from James Carville... Its the talent stupid

I like Iowa's chances vs some teams better during daylight than at night. Not that the Hawks can't pull off the upset in Happy Valley at a 'white-out' game, but I'd like their chances a lot more if it was an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.

If you're on the fence about going to this game, do it.

Hawk fan or otherwise, a white out at Penn State is the most electric atmosphere in college football. It's worth going just to take in the experience.

O'Keefe was wildly popular as OC. There were routinely threads about him in that period.

O'Keefe is the only man alive who can work within the confines of a Kirk Ferentz system and present a schematic advantage while doing so. Remind me, who was the OC when we won our one and only BCS level game? Was it Greg Davis? Brain Ferentz? No, it was Kenneth Frances O'Keefe.

2004, Iowa was down to Sam Brownlee as the lone man who could line up at tailback. What does O'Keefe do with that? Oh, nothing big, he just won 10 freaking games and got us in the top 10 at the end of the season. The Brain ain't gonna achieve anything like that.

Well, it has happened before. In 2009 Iowa did exactly that. Iowa went into PSU for a sat night whiteout game and pulled off the upset. And this was a game where PSU was gunning for revenge after Iowa had ruined PSU's chances in 2008 of playing in the NCG.

OF course that 2009 offense may have had better WR's in McNutt and DJK, but you never know. We have not seen the new transfers play yet.

its from the 2022 season, and from Animal House
That's what I thought. One of my favorite quotes from my favorite movie. The reason I asked is because I was reading a thread on Reddit where they debating whether or not they were saying "dudes" or "dues" (for beer money). I'm going to go on thinking it is "dudes" even if I'm wrong and people think of me as the flat-earthing moon-landing denying Area 51 living son of DB Cooper (my idol).

Until we see the new transfers play I think it is safe to assume that this offense will have guys running routes who are as good as anyone in the NFL. QB is a first rounder. Only question is the fullback position with Pottebaum gone.
