It’s just pathetic. If you don’t believe me, try going to a non Iowa bar, preferably outside the state of Iowa and listen to people who happen to catch an Iowa game.

I will say it’s a great ice breaker to be asked “Is Iowa always this boring ?”

Shoot, that's what people outside of Iowa say about the entire state. And I proudly say, Yes, yes it is.

/QUOTE]

The main stat is Scoring offense ranking and we were pretty high last year historically for Iowa. but that is misleading because of the 4 high scoring games against some pissy low scoring games.

I see this year is 97th. Not good.

Sometimes the hawk defense gives up some yards but they are usually pretty salty in Scoring defense rankings.

The offense needs to get better especially in scoring, lets gets some power running going and get back to play action big time throws, especially the past the corner and in front of the safety along the sidelines.

From 1989 - 1994, Iowa averaged 47.1 in total offense.

In 1997, Iowa was 17th in the country. In 1998 Iowa was 109th. The cause was probably Fry's cancer, and he retired.

They topped out at 20th. I don't want to hear that it can't be done here, because it used to be consistently done here.

Iowa is 30-12 since 2015. I am no expert, but I imagine that's probably a top 10 record nationally. I want it to be better to, but sometimes perspective is needed. Who cares where the #'s are if they continue to win, that's the # I am looking at.

I think you mean Average, not mean.

When you look at BF's scoring offense, it is much higher than the yard based metrics. When you combine that with the defensive rankings, it makes more sense. A team isn't going to put up a ton of yards when they have a short field to go. Our extremely high number of interceptions last year really contributed to that.

Would I have rather seen about 14 more points on the board for each of the last 2 games, yes I would have. Who wouldn't?
Would I rather have seen our receivers and tight ends catch the dang ball, yes I would have.
Some times we just need to take a step back and look at the whole picture.

Numbers on face value are anemic at best, however a large number of teams get 20-30 more offensive sets than Iowa during a game given our style.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's a stat that's irrelevant at best and deceiving at worst. Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, and Wisconsin (among other way better teams) have averaged less plays per game than Iowa over the last 7 years. I didn't go farther back than that but I can if you want. There are various reasons for that, but plays per game is a bullshit stat that's not tied to or even correlated at all to total offense or wins. You'll need to come up with something different to go down that avenue.

The mean is the average.

Why were we so much more successful under KOK?
O'Keefe was a pretty good coordinator for Iowa and our line play was routinely better during his tenure than it has been after his tenure. People underestimate how woeful Davis was. I'm fully convinced that Ferentz brought him in to tell fans to STFU about O'Keefe and to pave the way for Brian bince it was going to be hard to find anyone worse than Davis was.

Anyway, if I'm being totally objective here, KOK's numbers are slightly inflated compared to his successor's numbers because the tempo offenses have really taken off and scoring and yardage have generally become inflated in the past 5-10 years.
