Iowa is 2 games over .500 going into Big Ten play

That's the 2nd most number of games over .500 going into Big Ten play Iowa has been in the last 5 years.

In 08-09 they were 10-3 which was far and away their best start in that time period.

I like the intensity level....they have each other's back and seem to be having fun! The corner is being turned!

Iowa hasn't played an NCAA tournament team yet this year (XU being the only team seeming to make NIT/NCAA run). I really wish the early Big Ten slate would be broken up a little as it seems Iowa always gets the marque games when the students are out of town. If they can withstand this early gauntlet and stay out of the Big Ten gutter then we will know that a corner is being turned.

This non conference season was a good opportunity to create some enthusiasm, now lets hope he can build on it.

I think SDSU will challenge Oakland for the Summit for a chance at The Dance. Other than that, if UNI can shore it up in the MVC, they have a shot too.

But I agree, no clear cut NCAA team in the OOC.

Good catch, I didn't really take into account the more minor conference opportunities which will most likely be 13 or higher come tourney time. And I don't see UNI being in the top 3 of a really bad MVC this year. That being said, this is a very nerve wracking yet incredibly exciting time that is upon IA with this Big Ten slate.

SDSU was picked to come in 5th in the Summit. The win over Iowa won't change that prediction.

They have a Pomeroy Rating that's right there at 2nd in the Summit, so I'll stick by my in-season analysis rather than someone's preseason picks before they've seen a game.

Iowa Football was predicted to either win or place 2nd in the Big Ten too.... we know how that worked out. Actual results are better than predictions/guesses.

IMO, It's still too early for Pomeroy to be accurate. SDSU has already been beaten by NDSU at home. I think they will end up 5th behind Oakland, Oral Roberts, NDSU,and IUPUI.

I'm not saying you are doing it, but i think alot of Iowa fans are over-hyping SDSU, trying to justify a bad loss by Iowa.

Hey, it was the first game under this new system. This team has shown a lot of improvement since then. I would like to think the outcome would be different if we played them today.

I bet SDSU improved too. They played freshman and sophs. also.

I look at it as Iowa finally put together a decent game (no huge scoring drought, shot over 60% from the free throw line, outrebounded the other team, more assists than turnovers, turn off the intensity with a big lead) against a team that was around Iowa's equal, more or less, over the course of the OOC. They've also improved since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately they're young and are going to have some nights were they regress to their bad habits (under 60% free throws, poor shooting, negative assists to turnover margin, long scoring droughts, let a big lead go bye bye). I don't expect them to make the post season, not in year 1. Hopefully they can win half their home games and win the "winnable" ones on the road (penn state for instance). Also, maybe Iowa can get the NW problem solved.

I'm just glad too see that Jackl has a take on IUPUI.

When's the bowl game again?

Pomeroy predicted the final score for tonights game to be 72-58. I think there's enough data to determine where we stand.

Iowa started the season at #102, we are currently at #80 and will probably move up a tick or two before the Illini game.

Last year we finished the season at #178, the year prior we finished at #91. Thank you Todd Lickliter

The corner is not being turned. Our GPS doesn't even have the corner on the display yet.

The corner is being turned or there would not be such a varying of opinions. One person thinks we just suck, another likes this team and how they have improved, the next person thinks this is a lost season, it is all good discussion, but understand one thing: You can count on all of our best players to be back on the roster next year, when was the last time we could think that? Iowa will be "young" for two more years and then the full classes will be coming through. This team is clearly better now than they ever were in the last two seasons, maybe that is not saying a lot, but at least there is a good feeling around the program, something I have not had for about a decade. Always wondering who was going to get arrested, kicked off, found passed out or declared academically ineligible. With this staff, I just don't worry about that and the only thing I am focused on is how they are doing on the floor and who they can add in recruiting...it isn't "what now?" anymore.

We all would be giddy as hell if we would have won the two games that we had double digit leads and ended up losing.

Long Beach is one.... is ISU the other?
