Iowa @ Illinois game thread

Agreed, if I would have taped that game I would go back and count how many open looks he had. As good as a shooter that he is supposed to be he sure misses the open looks a lot. 12-15 point game that it was if Gatens hit 3-4 open looks it's a different game, got to be more consistent.

He's definitely had a ton of open looks this year. Way more than last year. Again he had multiple opportunities in this game to hit some big shots and swing the momentum, and again he failed to deliver.

Agree. I have had enough of NOT big shot Gatens. Whenever we need him to step up, brick, brick, brick. His brutal 3 point shooting has curbed many a rally this season and seeing others bust their butts to chase down a rebound, block a shot etc., only for him to clank a wide open look has grown old. He hit his ceiling as a freshman it appears.

I love how Iowa is playing its best basketball down the stretch. I think that's all we need to know about Fran and his ability as a leader and a coach.

This is the worst 4 year run ever for Iowa basketball, these players have been kicked around, they sit in last place in late February, yet they show up at Assembly Hall full of p_iss and vinegar and looking for a win. They're diving on the floor, they're rallying behind each other, they want the rebound more than Illinois...

No one else will take us seriously until we start getting the wins, but the Hawks are back. A Hawkeye explosion is coming sometime soon.
