Iowa free agent agreements

I guess we'll see. We'll see if 200 lb backs from Louisiana Tech and 185 lb backs from Virginia State meet your criteria of running back freak. I guarantee they didn't go up against the likes of Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State week after week either.

Wadley was considered the best available at his position for at least one and one half rounds on two networks.

I love AW as much as the next Iowa fan, but him not being drafted doesn’t shock me.

I thought Philly might take a flyer on him for reasons I explained in another thread. And I didn't even mention Darren Sproles probably on his last leg. Either way he'll get his chance. I was pleasantly surprised that Jewell went fourth round. I thought he might drop because many teams, in addition to wanting the freak at running back, want even Mike's to be able to move and cover.

By the way, I've been watching NFL football since the Jack Lambert era. When are the Steelers going to draft a Hawkeye?

This past year is the least amount of professional football that I've watched. It has nothing to do with the anthem stuff or anything, it's just that the game isn't as engaging as it used to be for some reason. I'll admit, it was fun seeing CJ get a shot, albeit too early for him, but for the most part...the pro game just doesn't interest me. When they start allowing the jackass touchdown celebrations...well...you know they are searching for why guys like me are leaving...Great marketing idea though NFL, but don't you have concussion research and several domestic abuse incidents to cover up? There it is...the NFL is a manipulative dirty girl...who does bad things.

College Football will always be special.

I think the NFL realizes it has a major problem on the horizon with concussions and fan engagement so the excessive celebrations are to attract new and young fans. My nephews who are under the age of 10 come over to my house to play madden and they always want to play as Odell Beckham. The flashy, cocky, arrogant bullshit that we all hate...the kids love.

Humpal was looking like he was going to stick, but got injured. Greenwood made it to the final round of cuts.....well you know what happened after that. Other than Jonathan Hayes in the mid 90’s no other hawk has made an impact. Kinda sucks.

Forgot about Greenwood and I shouldn't have. Larry Station was drafted in 1986 in the eleventh round back when they had twelve. But Larry was undersized by NFL standards and played a good portion of his senior year with a back injury that he aggravated early in the fateful Rose Bowl game.

This was mentioned on a basketball thread. Dunking doesn't thrill today's kids like it did us. If you want to see a high school student section go nuts watch a point guard cross over and "break the defender's ankles".

That is crazy Butters. How is JT Barrett not one of the best 200 football players in America? I'm not sure I get that one and then you have the Wadley thing. These guys are idiots. The problem is...unless you make a mistake in the first round or second round...no one hears about it and you have a few years to make up for it. If Wadley does well in the league...I think Hawkeye Nation should Crowd Source a fund to put up Billboards next to the stadiums for GM's that passed on him. Something like, "Akrum Wadley just scored again. What has your 4th, 5th, or 6th round draft choice done for you. Stupid GM dickhead!".
I like your style. That's funny.
True, but funny.

Sorry, one more thing...Tanner Lee got drafted. The biggest game Tanner Lee has won is in Xbox. Yeah...I'm going to take him over JT Barrett...who won big game after big game and has more toughness in his freaking pinkie.

Lee was terrible and he was terrible in the Senior Bowl - even embarrassing. Its who you know I guess.

Maybe Barrett and Wadley weren't unpatriotic enough?

Yep...and let me tell you...10-12 year olds don't have a lot of money in their bank accounts. I understand they may get parents to cough up dough or jerseys etc...but it's the advertising that pays the bills and if I'm not watching on Sundays...eventually that catches up to revenue and profits. NFL owners are the last vestige of the white male oligarch in the United States, in my opinion. No matter what you think of Colin K and his demonstrations...they can ban you and collude to do anything they want. I want to support anything Jerry Jones does like I want another hole in my head. These guys come off as arrogant pricks most of the time who are playing with their coveted "Rosebud" and they want it the way they want it. They could give a shit about their players and their behavior, in most cases, shows that. The NFL has a problem.

The college game has one thing that the NFL will never have...LOYALTY. Alumni received something valuable from the University they attended (education / experiences)...hence the deep loyalty. Loyalty is a two way street...ask the majority of fans in San Diego how they feel about the Chargers. That should tell you all you need to know about NFL owners. I'm a part time fan of the NFL and guess what...it centers around watching former Iowa players and wanting them to be successful. Screw the league profits and the owners.

Didn't McShay have Wadley ranked as a top five back for last years draft? Weren't we worried at the end of the previous season that he would leave early?

IDK, I tend to make my own assessment.
Lee was terrible and he was terrible in the Senior Bowl - even embarrassing. Its who you know I guess.
On the tracker app I used, the assessment of them picking him was brutal. True, but brutal. Accuracy problems, caves under pressure were just a few things said.
I lol'ed and thought no duh.

Yes it will be, as long as the NFL allows it to be. A lot of posters, including you, have made accurate, negative comments about the NFL and its owners. But they are the main reason college football hasn't faltered like college basketball has.

Their owners are so powerful they actually prevented Mike Williams and Maurice Clarett from entering the pros prior to the 3 years out of high school limit that they have and no players have challenged the rule since. They are the only professional sports league that has the power to do so.

If you're a college football fan you have to root for the NFL to continue being the most popular sport in the US and continue to bury upstart leagues like the upcoming XFL reboot and the spring league that has a lot of former NFL players participating. In fact the NFL would do the NCAA a favor by increasing roster spots for each team but that would mean more money out of the owners profits and we all know that wouldn't like that at all.

Hell, NFL players celebrate first downs like they just won a date with J Lo. My issue is excessive commercials. If you flip to an NFL game at random your odds of catching it in commercial are probably around 99%. Well someone's watching, albeit not necessarily on TV anymore with modern technology.

That is an absolute joke about Tanner Lee. I simply laugh at the moron and team who wasted a pick on him.

Drew Ott never got a free agent opportunity? I thought he was re-habbed?

And screw the NFL. I've been done with it for a long time.

Tanner Lee will be a camp arm and has 0.0 percent chance of playing a regular season snap in the NFL. That said he had no business hearing his name called over a JT Barret or numerous others. Say what you want about Barret but he had some dang good games and won a ton of them at the college level. We sure got the best of him but dude can play football. It really did blow my mind seeing him get drafted. The only thing he'll be good for is letting DBs practice getting INTs.

I'm telling you...this Wadley thing is really in my craw right now. You draft a guy out of Bumfreak University because he can lift 225 a few more times and you like the way he combs his hair. Look at the freaking tape you dickheads.

Wadley did everything the right way...preserved through early dog house days, improved his ball security, made every freaking play in front of him and then some...against some of the best competition in the country and you give the small school guy the benefit of the doubt and draft him. I just don't get it.
Research “former Heisman trophy winners” and see how much success many of them had in the NFL. Point being college success is not neccasarily the best indicator of NFL success. Could the NFL GMs being wrong about Akrum? Sure. But when all 32 pass on him for 7 rounds maybe there is a reason. These guys make mistakes no question, but they’re not idiots either.

All you were worried about was whether Jamie Pollard’s massages were long enough and whether Tracy Claeys had enough Dilly Bars. A Hawk fan you ain’t.
