Iowa Finishes Season at #25

Nebraska's schedule next season is so creapuff its sickening. They get all their toughest games at home and they don't play Penn State, Michigan or Michigan State.

The Iowa State thing is ridiculous. Ranked 20th coming off an 8-5 season and losing their two top players?

Hard to be critical of the poll position. Had our chances to make some noise but waited until the last game of the year to beat the #18 team (at the time) and it was down to the wire with them. Never beat a team that finished in the Top 25 and with what most would call a favorable schedule.

I'm OK with #21-#25...........never saw Top 20 as a possibility with several ahead of us that were just outside of the Top 25 as well and they won their games as well. Had we pummeled MSU we would likely be at #20 or a bit better.

Even better, lets look at the preseason 2019 rankings:

No Iowa, but every team around Iowa is ranked. Wisconsin, Northwestern, Missouri, Iowa State, and Nebraska.....It looks like Iowa fighting Minnesota and Illinois for being the worst team in the region........

If you look long enough you can find a poll that you'll likely agree with........they'll be plenty of them coming.
This one probably tastes better:

buddy it doesnt matter
It totally matters. I'm in an office full of Clemson fans talking about which national championship merchandise they want to order and for me to be stuck saying "Derp, well Clemson had a nice year but Iowa finished ranked 25th" makes me look like a total tool. Saying "Iowa finished 21st" would carry a lot more gravitas.

Iowa beat the team that had held Alabama to the fewest points all season before Clemson came along and throttled the Tide. Stick that in their collective faces. They'll walk away so confused they won't know what to say.

Can't argue with this. Iowa is losing a shocking amount of starters and quite honestly very few good draft eligible players are still on the team which means very few if any good 3/4 year program players. That's a bad recipe for Iowa.

I think I read in the Monty thread that since ISU is losing Monty/Butler our unranked squad will be a 6.5 point favorite over their ranked team.
Of course it is all speculation and every team loses talent but I agree with Dean.
Hooker gone ! Stone the new superstar
Nelson gone ! Reiff or Wagonner to the rescue?
Fant gone ! We won a bowl game without Mr. 9 snaps per half.
Look, we do lose lots of talent, no doubt. But if "good" Stanley shows up for 12 straight weeks we have a 59.4801% chance of winning the west. Trust the depth.

I firmly believe we had a top 15 level football team this year. Our resume’ looks more like that of the 25th team in the country.

Hopefully we can win the close ones next year as the schedule will be tougher.

I compared the AP preseason poll to the final. There were 11 teams that ended up unranked. They are: WI(4), MIAMI(8), AUB(9), STANFORD(13), VATECH(20), OR(24),MISSST(18), TCU(16), MICHST(11), FLST(19), dan SOCAL(15). In summary the AP poll got 14 right out of 25. This is worse than previous years where they usually get 16 right.

I do think 25 was a bit low. The ranking by Sagarin and Massey are probably better.

They also recruited two of the top high school tailbacks in the country, have a bright young qb, a dynamic offense and highly determined and driven coaching staff and AD. They are hungry and getting after it. We will have our hands full and then some next year over there

It’s doesn’t necessarily need to be those guys replacements that step up and become stars. Look at last year, we had an All-American MLB in Jewell and you could argue that MLB was our worst position on defense this year. We lost Jackson at corner and had a revolving door at that position this year due to injury. Turns out Hooker, Nelson, and AJE stepped up as stars on this years unit that was every bit as good likely better than last years.

Between Golston, Colbert, Niemann, Hankins, Brents, Stone, and a few others, there are plenty of guys who have the potential to step up as the “stars” of next years defense along with AJE.

Nice try. Preseason rankings mean squat. Iowa will defeat Nebraska and your team, Iowa State, again.

Please go back into your troll hole.

Agreed. Each year is its own production. With stars we didn't predict and others who were predicted sidelined or under-whelming. We just don't know who will step up . . . which teams will falter . . . which teams will rise. Who among us predicted NW taking the west with second place being 3 games behind them. A very unlikely outcome yet it happened.

You’re not a Hawk fan so please go blow Campbell on CF thanks. They have no proven WR’s or RB’s, a mediocre offensive line, and Purdy will have to prove he can be a real QB and not just a chucker downfield with Butler to make his stats look good.

I'd hesitate to call that line mediocre. They kept TEs and RBs in for pass pro a ton and still gave up 31 sacks, and now Purdy won't be able to chuck jump balls to Butler or rely on Montgomery to bring literally the entire run game.

What you say is true, but he's also right about having our hands full over there. Have you seen what we're losing this year. A LOT. Its hard to feel confident given that the game is in Ames and even Iowa teams that have no business losing in up there have gone down.

What a joke the AP poll is. I mean seriously Utah St. beats N. texas and is ahead of Iowa? Boise St. doesn't even play its bowl and is ahead of Iowa? Cincinnati beats a sub .500 VaTech and is ahead of Iowa?

I mean which is it you dumb ass media? Is the SEC the end all beat all, or aren't they? I mean Iowa beat the #18 ranked team who is in the all powerful SEC and they get squat for it. What a joke.

Worse yet, we remained unranked in Coaches Poll...while Mississippi State ranked at 25.

$125,000 bonus for Kirk Ferentz for finishing in the Top 25.

Plus, he gets another $650k retention bonus on January 31st.

Ka-ching!
