Iowa basketball frosh stayed loyal despite blue bloods’ pursuit

There are a few still out there. From article:

Although Thompson revealed his commitment to Iowa on July 5, the 17-year-old freshman revealed on Wednesday that he continued to receive scholarship offers from a few national powerhouses and actually had visits scheduled, but instead chose to close his recruitment completely.

"Honestly, it wasn't even an opportunity to do it this year until it got brought up in Coach McCollum's office, Thompson said.

"After I called everybody and told them I was coming here, Purdue offered it, Vanderbilt offered it, I think UConn would have talked to me about it a little bit as well, but I had a visit scheduled for Kansas and UConn, and I canceled both of them to come here."

I see that he has not yet seen the court during a live game. Are they planning to redshirt him? He's OK with that?
From everything I have gathered, it seems he’s still getting caught up in general as he wasn’t here when basketball team started practices. McCollum did say after the first game that Trey is fine and good but getting him caught up defensively is what’s held him out so far. He hasn’t said anything about redshirting, and from what I gathered he committed on the word he would play this year. In the interview I just posted of McCollum last night he mentions that Trey loves this team and is understanding with what’s going on. He mentioned Trey is willing to do whatever he can to help this team out.

McCullom doesn't seem like the type that would be closed off to communication. I suspect that there has been and will be a lot of one on one conversations as to plans for this year and beyond. Honestly a pretty good gig for a 17yr old, make 6 figures while learning on the job. Should pay off(no pun intended) next year for him and hopefully the Hawks. The trick is keeping him that 2nd year as his value will have increased.

Has he played at all yet? I've watched all of the games but can't remember if he has even been on the court yet. Maybe Tonight???

He hasn’t. McCollum said something about needing to catch up on the D side of the ball. Said he’s really good offensively and being he missed summer he’s going to have to catch up. Good thing, he mentioned Treys willing to do whatever to help the team. Trey said when he first got here that his first practice he visited on, everyone was going hard but always had smiles on their faces and wanted to be there in practice. That other schools he wouldn’t mention didn’t have the same vibe.

That's great to know the guys enjoy playing together. Chemistry is vital to success. Actually sitting here listening to the Chicago State game as I type. I Have the Big Ten Channel but not BTN+. I can however listen to Gary and Bobby on audio broadcast on YouTube. Iowa up 62-34 in the second half.

Same here. I used to have BTN+ but they removed the team pass option where all you subscribed to was whatever school you wanted. It was cheaper. Not an option anymore apparently.

Like you comment, but not what the BTN did by removing that option. What's next every game will be covered by different streaming channel?

Now if Ben builds a program where every year match's what Mr. Davis did his first year at IOWA, then I would pay whatever it takes to watch the IOWA. That first year for Mr. Davis, that Iowa team for a long time held the record for the number of players drafted to professional basketball in one given year.

Coach RAV could really recruit, but fell short on game coaching chemistry. Mr. Davis just the opposite as he fell short of what RAV did in recruiting, but his during game coaching far exceeding what RAV did with his own recruits.
