Iowa Adds JUCO RB

Nope, Wegher went to the Hawks straight out of high school (Heelan), left the team because he had baby mama problems, and then played two years at Morningside in Sioux City.

He also had a couple of pit stops at Oklahoma and Iowa Western. Here is his story in more detail

It began in Sioux City at Bishop Heelan Catholic High, where during his junior and senior seasons he rushed for a combined 5,572 yards and 82 touchdowns. He had 3,238 yards and 51 touchdowns as a senior.

That earned him a scholarship at Iowa, where in 2009 Wegher rushed for 641 yards and a school freshman record eight touchdowns. He added 113 yards and a touchdown in a 24-14 Orange Bowl victory over Georgia Tech.

This is where the story takes a major turn. Wegher left before his sophomore season for what he called personal reasons that never were disclosed. He transferred to Oklahoma, but was ruled academically ineligible before playing a down.

That led to a brief stop at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, where Wegher also was declared academically ineligible.

During this time Wegher was arrested in Akron, Iowa, and charged with domestic abuse assault. He allegedly pushed his brother, Cole, so hard that Cole's head struck a kitchen counter sink, according to a 2012 story in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Wegher also reportedly was arrested for public intoxication and charged with eluding police in Council Bluffs.

"I was just being a kid," Wegher said without elaborating.” I didn't have life figured out."

Wegher began figuring life out in Sioux City, where he worked at a mining and then construction company to support his son who was born during this time.

But after three years of not playing football, Wegher decided it was time to return. So he met with Morningside coach Steve Ryan and asked for another chance.

Wegher didn't disappoint. He set an NAIA record season record with 2,610 yards rushing. In two seasons, he became the school's all-time leading rusher with 3,815 yards and 52 touchdowns.

have you ever been to the ND campus? I have. I was actually fortunate enough to go to a game with my Dad. Chills, my friend, chills. There is a mystique that cannot be explained, easily. kelly is a boob and i wish he'd leave. but ND, the school, would be worth playing for. PLUS...you graduate with a degree from ND and you're writing your own ticket to millions.

I stopped there once to get this photo.

Pretty proud moment. Honestly though, the campus was awesome.

disagree.
I was there in 1999 for the ASU game.

As someone who doesn't believe in unicorns, Allah, hobgoblins, the tooth fairy, Jeebus, "afterlife," and most definitely not some creeper wearing a yarmulke and sticking wheat thins in kneeling, grown men's mouths, I can definitely say that campus is hilarious, lol.

If Benny wants me to take him seriously, he's going to have to put a propeller on that stupid hat.

Wehger was possibly one of the most fantastic RB's I can ever remember at a high school level. He was flat out amazing. Speed, power and elusiveness he really had it all. I was stoked when he signed with Iowa. I thought for sure he would help Iowa to several great years. He showed nicely his Freshman year and without doubt proved that if he played for at least 3 years we would be comparing him to the greats. I was crushed when I found out that he was a complete head case. It is quite a shame. The kid had NFL talent and the body to make it there. He squandered quite an opportunity.

Well he did make the NFL and maybe is still there, went to the Panthers I think. Is he still active player?

A walk on JUCO isn't going to affect the status of a 4* RB at all. I'm betting this just means that Toks isn't going to be playing football any longer. Plus we are short on RB anyway, adding another RB isn't going to scare off recruits.

What a dipshit. I can't believe this was your take.

Obviously Iowa feels they are full at RB now, and have told Brock as much. This really stinks, I really thought we would take 2 RB, this JUCO better be freaking good, because I think Brock is gonna be pretty good.

Kinda reminds of when Iowa told DeAndre Johnson and James White they would take the 1st to commit....oops

I think this is a little different in that Goodson is also a very good back. I mean if they told Brock and Goodson that whoever committed first would get the one spot, that is cool. If they gave Brock's scholarship to the JUCO, that is NOT cool. I don't think that is what happened, as I don't think they had to give him one. Now he might get one if another player leaves, but I think (or should say hope) that Iowa just wants 1 RB in the '19 class, so a JUCO in '18 doesn't make any difference with that.

Tough to say, but I would bet it was a who wants to be a Hawkeye thing, more than anything.
The only possible reason I can think of is either the kid isn't up for the competition and wants to be anointed before stepping foot on campus or we are full up now.

I was under the impression that Sargent wasn't even given a scholly to start with that Iowa was over the 85 limit... He may end up getting one depending how things play out but Iowa is pretty much full. So with him having 3 yrs to play instead of 1 or 2 I think that just limited the need for having 2 RB recruits in this next yrs class. So to me it's a numbers game and with Sargent on board scholly or no scholly they just don't have the need to allocate 2 of them to next yrs class and they probably feel Goodson is a better compliment/fit than Brock.... Beyond that heck if I know.

Not sure you can ever have too many RBs at Iowa. Just sayin...
