Iowa Adds JUCO RB

I knew they were concerned about depth.
I didn't know he was a walk on. That's a huge difference in my mind.

he isn't a walk on talent. check out his '17 season highlights. Power, change of direction, blocking, good speed (not great) vision and can catch out of backfield. this kid will play. TY needs to produce early and often or he's climbing down the ladder.

Edit: MS is from Key West.

The kid looks pretty good overall. I definitely saw a few things that bode well for the Iowa run game. He appears to be a physical runner and hits his holes fast before they close up. Obviously we are only seeing the scenarios that went right as its a highlight film, but all the same it appears the tools are there. Fosters job probably got a little easier this season. Even if this kid is not ready to start he is at least a back up with something other than only HS for experience. I can't imagine that doesn't help.

Yeah, he looks pretty good, not the fastest. Low center of gravity and seems to be ok with being physical.
We needed depth and options, I've said before, the #3 spot is important and I was and still am curious how that all shakes out.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this kid was pushing for the starting spot. He had quite the accomplished season in JUCO.

the speed of Tavian Banks, The power of Shon Greene and the moves of Akrum Wadley. but can he block?

Watch the video. The kid delivers several mouth watering blocks. Granted they are not pocket protection variety, but he is strong and I doubt it will be much of an issue for him.

he does deliver a couple of bowling ball meet bowling pin blocks. uses his shoulder well.

As good as this kid is I'm kinda surprised he'd walk on at Iowa when he probably had other options. With 3 yrs to play and no guarantee he'll get a scholly it just makes a guy wonder. Is he that confident he'll elbow his way up the depth chart right away and earn a scholly? (currently a player or two would have to leave as I think we are over the limit) I'm trying to look at it from his view. As a FL kid going to Juco school in Iowa it's just an interesting move. I can't remember ever seeing the his name before so I don't know where he was on the recruiting boards 2 yrs ago and who all may have been in on him. But he sure hit the ground running last yr when he got to play. If your adding a JUCO he may as well be as put together as he is and put together a better than solid year on tape.

Had surgery for a blood clot in his brain during bowl prep.
Really? I hadn't seen anything on what was up with him. It'd been pretty hush hush from what little I'd seen about him. Hope he'll be alright. Who cares if he'll ever play football again. That's as scary of a deal as it gets if that's what he's been dealing with.

That's what Blair Sanderson reported. I don't know any more details, but you're right, that's a pretty scary deal that goes way beyond football.

From Blair in December:

I've been able to confirm that Toks Akinribade had emergency surgery for a blood clot in his brain last week. Scary deal obviously and his parents flew in to be with him, etc. I don't have all the details, but was told that things went well and he's in good spirits. How all of this affects his football career remains to be determined, but more importantly he's okay.

From everything I have read, this kid was a late qualifier coming out of JUCO. This probably hurt his recruitment quite a bit.

He was not heavily recruited out of HS. He made a bet on himself and decided to enroll at one of the best JUCOs in the nation at getting its players into D1 schools.
He is now betting on himself to make his way at a B10 school.

At this point, I would bet on him succeeding. Sounds like a quality kid who really believes in himself and is willing to work for it.

I like this pick up. I have a good feeling about this one. Is Iowa Western becoming Iowa's feeder or minor league team? Doesn't seem to be a bad relationship with them!

Yeah he's certainly not taking the easy road. It's fun to root for kids like him. Not sure where or how he'll fit in but I'm glad we got him depth wise. He clearly can run with the football in his hands.

Reminds me a Fred Russell. Low center of gravity and shifty. He can hide behind the offensive line and squirt through openings. Obviously, the level of competition on the film is not B10 compatible...but if his burst is legit...he poses a nice change of pace to a Toren Young or IKM.
