Iowa 7th lowest stipend among Power 5 schools listed (nearly 60 of 65)

The top priority of the athletic program, particularly the football program, is to make money. Short-changing the new scholarship limit helps the bottom line.

Gotta pay KF's salary somehow, don't we?
Honestly I don't think this would factor.. I think his salary is paid completely by outside money boosters etc... It's what makes him the highest paid state employee even though its not paid by the tax payers if that makes any sense...

The cost of attendance is calculated by each universities financial aid departments. The athletic department has no say in how much they can pay out. Naturally the huge disparities are a cause for concern though. Clemson, among others, are already calling for change on this to make it more even across the board.

How is a payout calculated?

How do they determine the "new" number?

Just paying for what we get. I'm sure the 1st thing a new coach will ask is to raise this since it just makes it harder to recruit to a place that's already hard to recruit to.

No! Stop with the facts!!! Get outta here! Fire Kurt now!!!!

I see these posts that we have all this money but when it comes time to do something it is no where to be found.

The new scholly is pathetic.

There's probably a lower cost of living in Iowa than some of these other cities but if anyone is surprised at Iowa's position they haven't been paying attention over the years. We knew Iowa wasn't going to lead the new era. Almost everything in the state and in our schools take a cautious, go slow approach. Give it 5 years and we'll be at the point where we should have been starting at.

Give the student athletes some more money now!!! When I donate to the Iowa Fund I earmark a certain amount to scholarships. I also expect enough of the money given by people to go to student athletes. With Iowa's top ranking in bringing in money they/we should not be 7th.

In this regard the fans who donate have some say, albeit a lesser say compared to TV dollars.

College football = semi pro league

i am sure that is no surprise to most of you. It's a money making revenue sport. The sooner the fans accept this fact the sooner they will demand more excellence from iowa's coaching staff.

Estimated increase for Iowa, so may be a little higher, or lower.... But if you look at the schools in the $1800.00 - $2200.00 increase range, which are - Mich St, ND, Iowa, WV, Minn, Mich and Duke. Three of these schools are probably not content with where their athletic programs are and could probably be spending more money, but I like to think that maybe they are taking the smarter approach and not throwing stacks of money around.

The SEC and the Big 12 on the other hand look to be using this as another advantage right from the get go. Some of the schools at the top DO need the extra incentive, but Auburn, Oklahoma, Tennessee... Come on.

The numbes used for hthe Uniersity of Iowa are not the final numbers I believe. Iowa's original number got adjusted severl timeas when Iow looked at what other schools were incluing it the number and what was allowed. Final number ended up 2400 or so I think.
