Iowa 14th In AP

Of the teams in front of us the ones I would least want to play are 1. Syracuse, 2. Arizona and 3. a healthy Florida. But we can play with and beat anyone on the right night.

How about 3 voters giving Illinois votes, apparently they aren't aware they were blown out against Wisconsin and then lost to one of the worst teams from a major conference last night.

My guess is sometime during either the '97-'98 year or '92-'93. If not one of these two, it would have to be when we beat #3 Indiana at Carver in '87. We were, of course ranked #1.

The closest I could find was January 31st, 1993 when Michigan came into Carver ranked 5th (fab 5 team) and Iowa was ranked 11th. A game Iowa won 88-80, Michigan went on to lose in the title game that season.

That game against MSU in '06 also put us all alone in first place in the B10 at the 3/4 mark of the season, it was a huge game.
 
Only playing once this week while the best battle it out...there's a good chance, with an Iowa win, that they move up a couple of more spots, especially in the coaches poll, which traditionally lags behind the AP with voting.

I mean I didn't think it was a terrible loss but I certainly didn't expect them to move up. I guess in fairness, I never expected Iowa to move up after losing at Wisconsin but that I understood a little bit, being it was a top 5 team.

ISU's thumping of Baylor was also last week. I have no problem with the bump up, since several other ranked teams lost as well.
 
This Minny game scares me, because we have a week off now. Wish we were playing again mid week. Minny did take MSU to OT I believe this weekend. But being at home we should be ok. Have my tix to the MSU game, would be awesome to have a top 10 matchup.
 
Next Monday Iowa will be ranked ahead of ISU if Kane doesnt play the 2 games this week. I see them losing to Kansas tonight and at Texas if he is out.

No way they can beat Kansas without him, and I don't see him being able to play. He did more than just twist that ankle. For Texas? Wait and see there.

I think we can be above ISU next Monday.
 
Texas has a lot of height in the post and those boys eat their Wheaties. That's going to be a tough game for ISU regardless. Their front line goes: 6'8 -240, 6'10 - 250, 6'9 - 235 and 6'9 - 285.
 
Given the choice I would much rather play Zona than Cuse. Syracuse is like a more athletic version of Iowa, Zona I dont think is much different than the rest of the top ten.

1. I specifically said COULD be the biggest game in decades. I'm not counting anything yet.
2. Even if I were, my outlook doesn't have any impact on the team or the next three games. They aren't going to drop a game against Minnesota, Northwestern or Michigan because I'm daydreaming about how awesome things could be on the 28th.

It has been a long time since there has been a game between 2 top ten schools in Carver, in basketball anyway. If Iowa can take care of business the 28th will be fun and will get a lot of attention.
