Interesting Joe Schad Tweet RE: KOK

Doubt there are any sources or anything, but the fact that it was mentioned got me thinking:

"Iowa OC Ken O'Keefe, Former UM OC Mark Whipple two UConn ideas"

If KOK ever does leave, and the new OC uses the exact same plays and has similar play calling who will all the haters blame. I enjoy our offense and actually think that KOK does a good job most of the time. Good for him if he is on UConn's list. Head Coaches are known for the coaches and players they develop. KF has a great group of players in the pros but he doesn't have anything for coaches that have turned into head coaches which worries me for the prospects of coaches when Kirk finally does leave. Hopefully no time soon.

Personally, I'm alright with KOK. I don't agree with everything he does, but that's true of every fan in every fanbase. I'm glad to see him get a little recognition, though.

As for who would replace Ferentz, number one on my list, pipedream as it may be, is Stoops. The support he showed us for the Insight Bowl was promising enough as far as highlighting that he still has a pretty big soft spot for the Hawks. Maybe that's not as big of a longshot as it might seem?

Interesting that he is getting the play that he is re: Indiana, now UConn. Some of you may get your wish. I hope not.

I actually think KOK would be a better head coach than an OC.....the fact that his name is getting brought up has me thinking that KF might be doing KOK a favor to get him a job.

I don't know if KF has any connections at UConn....but maybe KOK feels like giving the HC thing a try and KF is looking out for him.

We've never heard KOK's name mentioned before, so I have to think Kirk might be helping him out a little here.

Him leaving can't hurt all it can do is be the same.

Which forces people to realize that all the venom spat in the direction of KOK should have been aimed at Ferentz. Now I don't think that going down THAT particular road is a good idea.

I don't know if he has connections still at UCONN, but Ferentz did play there in the '70s.

KOK was a head coach at smaller colleges before becoming the OC at Iowa. And he is from Connecticut so this could be a possibility that he is looking into.

UConn is Kirk's alma mater, maybe he put in the good word for Ken, who must be ready to spread his wings a little bit, after 12 years as an OC.

I do find it interesting this is the second mention for KOK in the last month, when the better part of the last 12 years there has been nary a mention

HIS idea.

He doesn't explicitly state that. I agree that is what it appears to be, but he never says "this is only my idea".

When looking at the UConn head coaching position, I have a hard time believing that KOK would jump out and scream "I'm the guy for the job". So I have to believe he's got at least a small lead somewhere that UConn is looking at KOK. Not saying its credible, but I have a hard time believing he'd just throw KOK's name out there otherwise.

He ran the spread for god's sakes - and won a national title - if that doesn't make people realize the conservative calls are all KF I do not know what will.

I guess one good thing if he leaves is that KF will likely not hire a "good friend" and be more willing to cut him loose if he does not work out.

I think it would be a good move for both parties. Iowa's offense has been stagnent fairly frequently over the years. We could use some fresh blood at the OC position.

Suppose there is a little discontent among the friends? I noticed KOK with an arms raised to the sky motion on 4th and inches during the bowl. I felt that he was a bit frustrated with KF not going for it...I was too.

Interesting development. KOK is 57, so I would have to think if he is considering going back to being a head coach, now would be maybe his last real opportunity. Another consideration is salary with KOK making $260,524 this past year and Randy Edsall making $1,300,000. I know he has a son about 24 (friend of a friend), but does he have other kids that would make him consider staying at Iowa?

A fun side note is UCONN plays ISU next season in Storrs, CT. It would be pretty enjoyable to see KOK and Ferentz beat ISU in the same season.
