Interesting Joe Schad Tweet RE: KOK

This makes more sense than the Indiana job. KF played at UConn and coached there. KOK is from Connecticut and has been a HC a few times plus he seems to be a little disconnected with the offense as seen with the punt on 4th and inches. It would be great if he got the job then everyone would see he is a spread guy and has been running KF's offense...Then others would understand that Norm is actually a guy that has ran some high powered blitz attacks. I like KF and the other coaches but at least blame the right guys. I wonder who Iowa would look at as to replace KOK if he gets the job.

HIS idea.

Do you mean Schad's idea? If you think he pulled these names from his hat without reason, I think you are wrong. I think these media guys are many times a mouthpiece for a coach, university, etc. Look no further than Alford and the Missouri job (Katz) when he was still here, or Texas this summer with the B12 stuff.

I'd like KOK to stay. But if he did leave, I'd like to see Iowa at least approach Ralph Friedgen (Sp?) for the OC position.

Most people on this board think like 3rd graders. They're not smart enough to realize the it is KF and not KOK who is responisble for our boring and predictable offense. Losing KOK won't change a thing!

I wouldn't call a power running game boring...I like watching a running back dominate a game by plowing and watching an OL just manhandle. Putting up pass after pass is like gambling at sometime an interception will happen. Spread offenses tend to give up more fumbles and interceptions. KF understands that a + in turnovers is more important that scoring fast or amount of yards, etc.

FCAS, Friedgren has no ties to the Midwest, the Big Ten, Iowa or anyone on the Iowa Staff so I don't see the connection but do agree with you it would be an interesting idea especially since he was always a balanced (run/pass) offensive coach. At 63, I don't know if Friedgren wants to go back to assistant coaching.

Another note, I work for the University of Connecticut. A lot of people and fans here really respect and like Ferentz. When I wear my Iowa gear I get positive comments around work and town. Connecticut people are a lot like Iowans in that they like local people so O'Keefe and Whipple make sense. In my opinion, Todd Orlando, the current DC of UCONN and a guy who has been a coach at UCONN for 12 years and a DC for 6 years, would be the first candidate on the list. If Edsall mentions Orlando is heading with him to Maryland than KOK will be a top 5 candidate for the job if KOK is interested.

Suppose there is a little discontent among the friends? I noticed KOK with an arms raised to the sky motion on 4th and inches during the bowl. I felt that he was a bit frustrated with KF not going for it...I was too.

One has to wonder if is something going on. KOK never mention before and it's not exactly like KOK is a HOT name and now his name comes up twice.

I agree he has no ties to the Midwest or the Iowa coaching staff, which is exactly why I think he could be a good choice. Bring in some new ideas. Also, he could help keep the Maryland pipeline going. However, you're right, at 63 he may just decide to retire. But maybe they could work out a deal where he could be here for a few years and mentor someone younger to eventually take over.

This is probably just my third grade level of thinking, but I'd like to believe that there might be someone a little better at developing/mentoring QBs than KOK is.

Schad was just on ESPN speaking about this as well. Mentioned O'Keefe would be a good candidate due to his Connecticut ties. It will be interesting to see what happens here.

It's hard for me to believe that KOK's name has come up twice in the last month out of the clear blue, since it hasn't before. It's not like he has set the world on fire statistically as a coordinator, either. to that end, I mean that his name would not be one that is front of mine to pundits or writers...it would have to be something they heard from somewhere or someone...and if that is the case, my 'guess' would be it's coming from Camp KOK.

A lot of guesses, make sure to note that ;)

I totally agree. I would not like it at all if we switched styles. Just do what we do better; and I think they are recruiting towards that goal.

How old are his kids? Any chance that if his kids are through school that he is looking to move around? Maybe he was being a good dad the last 12 seasons.

While I like staff continuity I would think introducing new blood and new ideas would be beneficial. In a weird way it would excite and energize the fan base, that is until he called a reverse to the short side of the field with a white boy wide receiver.

I have a feeling that 18 year olds wouldn't be running to play for a team whose cordinators are pensioners who are either morbidly obese and/or missing limbs.

However, if we want to hire a fat guy, maybe we can get Mangino or poach Charlie Weis.

Hey, what's Chuck Long up to these days?
