I'm sold. CJ Beathard should start the rest of the season.

Man, I don't know guys. That first half was pretty painful. I'd say very bit as painful as any beat hard game I've watched. Lots and lots of three and outs. Some pretty bad passes, overthrown and under thrown, open receivers missed, plenty of check downs, Some sacks. I didn't see much sunshine at all.

Agreed, but you can't put it all on him. There were drops, of course, but worse, the play-calling was mediocre at best. We didn't try to stretch the field much (if at all) the first half, and went PA in first half maybe once. Considering PA was what helped big in the second half against Pitt, not really utilizing it against Purdue is baffling.

But all those things can be said for jake too. I was really hoping the cannon would come out and do what we hoped he could, bottom line, he's not there yet, he's not Montana just yet. And it takes more than just a strong arm.

That's my point. Our problem isn't our QBs, our problem is our OC/game-planning/play-calling.

Same for me. I saw 3 and out after three and out. I saw a very poor completion percentage, a bad pick six, not much for passing yardage, lots and lots of check downs that everyone is critical of jake for, passes drilled at receivers making it difficult for them to adjust.

Right here you prove how much you don't know. The drops were not passes that needed adjustment. They were thrown with more velocity than Jake throws with. But it wasn't close to Christensen velocity. It was just legitimate QB velocity. I played receiver in high school. We had a D1 QB and a good high school QB that played D2 safety. The D1 QB came after the other guy. It took all the receivers weeks to start catching his passes, because we just weren't used to the ball getting there as fast and with such a tight rotation.

Hey, everyone: caarhawk played receiver in high school. Can we all defer to him now? Save us all time on arguing who should be starting, and an especially huge monkey off KFs back.

(I say this because caar's reply to MHA was essentially rude. hawkeyebob62-level rude. MHA is just posting what he saw in the game)

First half was bad...the whole offense played poorly. It was his first start on the road on a homecoming weekend. The boilermakers came out pumped. Sunshine didn’t get flustered and the pick 6 did not affect him. Still was willing to sling it. I just think CJB has a better upside. Some of his better plays were CJBs audible into passes.

I was thinking the same thing but just decided to take high road and avoid a thumbs down!

But.....I also played receiver in high school. Let me tell you about it. It's just great you will love it. We were playing the state champs waverly shell rock go hawks, down by 7, 45 seconds left, we were driving, ball at the 25 yard line, coach calls a five yard and get out of bounds, I make the catch, decide against the out of bounds, make my defender whiff, race in to the pylon for the 25 yard score. All future last second passing plays go To me now for opinion.

I know the Al Bundy thing is lame, but it was my personal experience. Lots of guys have had that experience. MHA said that CJ was throwing passes that were too hard so receivers couldn't adjust. That is just not at all accurate. They just aren't used to catching balls with velocity. Notice how they adjusted after the half? Do you think CJ started throwing softer?

<<Do you think CJ started throwing softer?>>

Having witnessed the Iowa portion of the career of Jake Christensen, "softer" is relative :)

I'm sorry I missed it! double :)

To be fare, it's Monday morning, my brain is not yet awake, I didn't say what I wanted to. The pass that I'm thinking of was the one where he rifled it KMM. It was a bullet but it was also a matter of timing. It was high, fast, and got there too fast. So it was timing probably. Little time by KMM to get it because of it being high, fast, and in him right away. Take your pick on that one.

Ps: I have it on VHS cassette if anyone is interested. I will let you borrow my VCR.

Youtube it. I totally want to see it. I also played WR in high school. I had some school records that were broken by a recent commit to Iowa State. I was involved in a play similar to yours (except ball was on our own 19) and I turned and broke it for what was sure to be an 81 yard TD, but then I tore my hammy at the 15 when I went into a prime time strut and when the defense caught me, I ripped my hip out of socket in the same manner Bo Jackson ruined his hip because my legs were so powerful. We lost and didn't make the playoffs once I was out for the season. It ruined my baseball career, too, or else me and Jeter would have been co-honorees on the farewell tour this year.

Missed the game but saw some of the replays, especially the Vines Diesel posted on the home page. Strikes me it has been a long, long time since Iowa has had a quarterback who can thread the needle and throw a frozen rope on target like CJ does. He can shred defenses and he brings a much different dimension to the offense. His ceiling is much higher than Jake's; Kirk and Greg need to figure out how to best take advantage of CJ's considerable talents.

To all those who are raggin' on Beathard for throwing the pick six....Have you forgotten the one that Rudock threw in his first start against Northern Illinois that directly cost us a victory?

I'm not sure that Beathard has demonstrated he is head and shoulders above Jake, but I sure feel more confident in the offense when he is at the helm. The real question is if Ferentz will give him a chance or if his mind is made up no matter what C.J. might accomplish.

Nobody has forgotten anything. Some are simply pointing out that CJ has made
the same mistakes because some around here seem to think he's Superman.

He gets a chance every day in practice... that's why Rudock is the starter.
