I'm sold. CJ Beathard should start the rest of the season.

Correct. We are really not that good of a football team. We have now played approximately 5 good quarters of football all year. But we seem to be improving. Our side is weak enough that if we can get to 6 wins we can have a shot at the title and if we see incremental week over week improvement like we saw back in 2002-2004 and in 2008-09 coupled with better QB play, we could still win our side of the conference. We're also bad enough to finish 2-6 or 3-5, though, so I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but for us to have a chance to get 6 or 7 BT wins, we gotta go with CJ. With Jake, I see us getting 4, maybe 5 and being 7-5 or 8-4, in the ballpark of last season. Given our schedule, I'd hope we can be better than that.

Thumbs up.

I just don't see what you guys are seeing. CJ had a pretty rough game, especially in the first half.

17/37. Under 50%.

And before you blame the drops, most of those were because CJ always throws the fastball. His passes are not easy to catch. He's going to break receivers fingers. He's going to get passes tipped at the line because he doesn't put enough air under a lot of this throws.

Today he checked down past several open receivers, just like you always complain about how Jake does. He's going to try to force a lot of passes, and today you saw the pick 6 as a result.

Yes, CJ does some nice things, but overall I simply don't see him as an obvious upgrade from Jake. I think we can win with either guy, frankly.

Purdue is a bad team. Jake could have easily piloted a 14 point win today.

We did lose at home to ISU, right? So, is ISU way better than Purdon't? I can point to a difference in how CJ checks down and how JR does it. CJ checks down if he's under pressure or is throwing to the sticks. JR checks down as a primary option and comes off receivers too soon. I saw CJ not throw to some open guys, but I also saw him make a multitude of throws that JR can't make. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and only time will tell. I simply see CJ with the ability to become an elite qb.

I'd rather go down swinging (CJ) than curled up in the fetal position (Rudock).

Take the horrific case of the dropsies out of the equation today & cj had a really good game.

I agree except we have 6 weeks for that game, Rodents game isn't until Nov 8th. KF will have 6 weeks of gamesmanship, so that could get really get scary for everyone.. :)

LOL. I've always tried to think to the future. Let me edit my comment to "next opponent."

Cjb did not do well enough to win the starting job today. But he did do well enough to keep Tue competition open with an advantage.

Good stuff...I'd go with CJB due to the upside...his pocket presence is most shaky thing right now, not surprising since he hasn't played much...he has been wearing red jersey too long so his internal count is slow because he doesn't get hit in practice. Second half was noticeably better in all areas.

I don't think Jake has lost the job..I just think the offense has the best chance at being something better than it has been with Rudock in the game.

HGF posted after the game that coming into Purdue, Iowa had completed just nine passes longer than 15 yards all year...they had 8 v Purdue.

Purdue is probably the worst program in the BCS right now. Maybe Kansas is worse, but I think they are worse than ISU. And ISU always gives us their best or second best game of the year. That loss was a team loss and this win was a team win.

And for the record, going broke safely means failing to buy a variable annuity and riding the stock market way up - you buy a low commission fixed annuity and take the safe route, you'll go broke, but safely.

Meh. Vin would be proud of your attempt though.

Wowsers. Case closed for this controversy! Even on underneath passes, CJ seemed to find guys in a spot where they could get some YAC (granted he missed a lot of those short passes, too).

I really don't think we watched the same game...

I can remember ONE drop that was fro CJ throwing the ball too hard...

The dropped TD was a soft pass... Powell dropped an easy one on 3rd and 10.

He did look nervous in the beginning but one thing I can't do is blame him for the drops I saw.

This was actually an ideal result. Sunshine had a lot of adversity and there was a lot to learn from.

He's clearly better tho.

It could have been gamesmanship also to keep the Goophers guessing. We've got 2 weeks to prepare for those schmucks. CJ didn't do anything today that proved: 1) he shouldn't start and, 2) JR is only even with CJ, at best. CJ looks like he could blossom into an elite qb. When he gains experience and very few things from defenses surprise him, he could become a surgeon on the field. Wouldn't that be ironic?

We play Indiana next, not Minnesota.

You weren't impressed because he was a guy starting his first game on the road in the Big Ten. He still has timing issues with the receivers bince practice is skewed heavily toward the QB1 getting virtually all reps with the first team offense. We can all point to errors CJ made, but there isn't one that sticks out in my mind as something that can't be corrected.

I don't think he separated himself (like I was hoping) to where there was no question...even in Kirk's mind. That said, I agree with you we should see more of him to make further evaluations. He would be my starting qb, but I can't honestly say with a straight face he is a runway for it. I do think his arm and the way he can stretch the field puts him over right now.

I hope CJ can continue to grow, using his feet (like he did when he needed to), throw the ball away when he needs to (he did that a couple of times), not eat sacks (needs to continue to improve here). Should be interesting on how Kirk decides this in the next 2 weeks.

But,but, all those drops were all CJs fault because he throws the ball tooo hard(as another poster alludes).. Give me a frickin break.

He took some sacks on third down right? Never good to do on first or second, but on third if he's hanging in there to see if a receiver breaks free I can't really fault him. As he might have a better chance getting the first down waiting rather than checking down to someone well before the first down marker. So theres some positive to say with him sitting in there too long.

Uh maybe one of them you could say he needs touch. And thats something that is simple to work on. But Hillyer had a very easy TD catch dropped and there were a couple others that didn't have anything to do with speed.
