I'm not really sure why people are surprised

#11 for VT (Wilson) is locking down Bohannon. The only opening that Bohannon had was a shot he never took because the ball wasn't passed to him. he can't shake #11 and he can't dribble by him.

Definitely an adjustment or better attention to detail by VT in the 2nd half to try and shut down JBo. That will happen more this year with Jok being gone. Iowa needs other players to make shots to take the pressure off there.

Next possession, VT is playing zone and Iowa moves the ball well enough to get dailey a wide open 3 pt shot from the corner. he misses. ball gets tipped out of bounds by Iowa on the rebound. Good shot but I'm sure VT is willing to live with the Dailey taking corner 3s.

VT's #5 just broke Bohannon's ankles and took it to the rim, while Bohannon was sitting on his butt at the FT line.

next possession. Baer drives to the lane into 2 defenders and gets stuffed. He then gets the ball back and tries a similar move off the glass, on the same side between 3 defenders. he misses.

Next possession. Cook drives the ball into 2 defenders. misses but gets fouled. Makes 1 of 2 FTs. We get the offensive rebound. Ball is immediately passed to Baer between the wing and the corner and fires up a contested 3 pt shot, leaning back and misses, with 27 seconds left on the shot clock. bad shot.

After 9 minutes of the 2nd half, VT hasn't done most of their damage in transition. They've scored most of their points breaking down our guards one on one and getting to the basket. They now have a 15 point lead. Fran still hasn't called a timeout.

Next possession. Bohannon gets to the rim and skulls the layup. That's a good take and a good look. he just missed it. Instead on getting back on defense, half of our team is trying to steal the ball, which leads to a wide open dunk by VT as 2 of our 5 players are laying on the floor, at each end of the court.

Next possession. Bohannon tries a lob to Cook but it's too low and short. The pass is stolen. It's a turnover. Rather than hustling back on defense, Bohannon slowly sulks at his poor pass while VT gets a layup.

The holes in the roster and recruiting are obvious. And I'm not sure that any of the players committed in the next 2 classes, fill the holes that we have. We need athletic PGs/Combo guards that can handle the ball and play defense. They are not on the roster and they are not currently committed to Iowa for '18/19.
It's a guard driven game at this level.

Is Iowa a developmental Football program, Basketball program or both?

Fran finally calls a timeout after VT extends the lead to 19. There still 11 minutes left in the second half.
VT has extended their defense out past the 3 pt line. Baer takes a really bad shot 1 ft inside the 3 pt line, fading away. Misses. Pemsl gets the board and passes to Bohannon at the top of the key. He misses. A defender still challenged the shot, closing out on him. We get another offensive board, a quick pass to Cook for a dunk.

Score is 60 - 43. The difference in this 2nd half is defense and guard play. VT has it and we don't. They have challenged most shots on the defensive end, while breaking down our defenders for layups on the other end.

Next possesssion. VT smothering defense. Bohannon has Nungee and Baer on the perimeter with him. Baer throws a bad pass out of bounds for a turnover.

Next possession. Same line up. Pemsl gets a decent pass, he's right under the basket and gets his shot pinned on the back board and the ball taken away.

Next possession. A quick shovel back to Bohannon on the wing and he fires a 3 pt shot and misses. Bohannon is sucking wind for the last 2 trips down the floor. He looks exhausted. That was a good shot but as tired as he looks, I'm not surprised he missed. it. Still running that line up of Bohannon, Nungee, Baer, Cook and Pemsl. That's not a line up that can win any game.

VT tries to push the ball but we have 4 defenders back and camped under the basket. VT fires up a quick 3 pt shot and 1 VT player gets the offensive rebound from the back side, with 4 Iowa players under the basket. Pemsl is playing the middle of the 2-3 zone defense and falls asleep while a pass goes right past his to a VT player that's sitting right on the base line corner of the block. Pemsl has to foul to keep from giving up the layup.

Should I continue or have we heard enough? We can't stay in front on VT's guards on the perimeter and they have contested almost every shot on the other end of the floor. We have no answer on the roster, which is evident in the current line up that has been playing the past 3 minutes. Having Baer or Nungee at the 2G spot is a colossal coaching error. Either by design or failure to recruit a roster that would give you other viable options.
