I'm kind of the same way. I unfortunately had to watch it with corn tard and Ronald McDonald in laws (divorce per the wife if I didn't go), well watching through kids in front of the tv and subtle passive aggressive gloating of the corn tards and clowns made it just wonderful. The neb tard dad even has his ten year old trained to scream Hawks suck. I didn't say anything. Just left at half. On way back to Des Moines, to top it off, car ran out of gas. If you were on 35 and zoomed by a guy walking three miles one way in the dark for gas, that was me. Happy new year
Same thing here except for the minor stuff like Nebby fans or running out of gas.
After my brother-clone-law said for the third time, "Well they haven't played anybody all year until MSU and this game...." I said, "So you agree that Iowa State should get off the schedule to give Iowa a game where they can play somebody and besides Iowa's SOS was better than Stanford's because the PAC12 sucked this year."
Later on a couple of nieces' snickers got loud and bold as I was filling up my dinner plate so my wife, an Illinois immigrant-turned Hawk fan said, "Which bowl is Iowa State in this year? And last year? Wait? How many games did they even win this year?" God bless her.
My family grew up cheering for and attending Hawks, Cyclones, and Bulldog games but Hawks were always top of the heap for us in excitement level. My brother graduated from ISU. He roots for both schools. I know one of the Rhoads family members (Paul was a cling on when he was a kid) -- so was pulling for him to do well.
But I have
never had a good experience watching an Iowa game around ISU fans.
Iowa-ISU at Kinnick in the blowout = bitter ol' ISU fan sitting behind me and my son tried to get in a fight with some 20-somethings sitting in front of us.
Iowa-UNI basketball game in the Big4 Classic last season = haven't heard such classless-ness in my entire life.
On and on.
I'm to the point where I hope ISU loses; is the next step happiness when ISU loses?
