I'm gonna miss the Big10

Expansion will kill what we know as the B10, especially if its this ridiculous 14 team "super (not really a conference but scheduling partners) conference". IF the B10 expands it better be ND or Texas. Any more than 12...or anyone other than those 2...and it better remain as is.

Adding Texas will make the road that much tougher on the Hawks. However, its unlikely Iowa will have to play Texas, UM, OSU, PSU all in one season. Unless we are then going to miss UM, OSU, PSU at the same time also.

What if we made a super super conference with 20 teams in it. We would grab 9 new teams, give them NW, and have two 10 team divisions. That sounds like a win win.

How about a 30 team super conference with our own national title game?

I think the predictions of a 14 or 16 team super conference are very long shots. I also think Deace is being extremely dramatic when he says the Big 12 is about to fall apart. My prediction for what happens (assuming ND doesnt wise up) is:

Colorado and BYU to the 12 Pac
1 of Mizzou, Nebraska or Pitt to the Big 10
TCU and Houston (if needed) to the Big 12
Some crappy team from conference USA to the crappy Big East if Pitt joins the Big 10

With the above scenario every conference has 12 teams, the benefit of extra money from a conference title game and historic rivalries are maintained.

I just dont see a major conference like the Big 12 dissolving

9 new teams + current 11 teams= 20 teams. 20 teams - NW = a super super conference of 19 teams.

Now we are talking. We could even develop some convoluted ranking system that combines a variety of human and computer rankings to determin the two best teams each year to play for our super conference national title.

Frankly I don't see how this could go wrong.

And with this plan there is no need for ESPN, ABC or any other tv station. Every game will be broadcasted on the Big 30 TV network. The only question remaining is can we get this done by September?

I've been reading more and more articles and blogs about there being 6 power conferences...anywhere from 12-16 teams each. Who knows where this is going to go, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Big10 lead the new revolution. And Iowa being a part of that would be pretty sweet, IMO. I think the college conferences will be a lot different in the next 5-10 years. We shall see.

I'm starting to feel I'd much rather just go to 12. I really don't want to see it jump to 14.

I think by adding 3 teams from the Big 12 the way Deace had it this morning would hurt the Big 10's strength even if Texas came in. By losing the rivalries we'd become just like the Big 12. Potentially much stronger on one side and then the other.

Living in Austin the news that UT is being considered for the Big Ten is big news. No pun intended. Most likely the Big Ten would not get UT w/o bringing A&M with them. Too much politics involved. However, it would be exciting to see UT and A&M play north of the Mason Dixon line come October. Methinks they would not like it. I realize they play Mizzou and ISU and such but joining the Big 14? would mean playing more times in the northern clime. It's all about the $ and not just football $. UT will make a move if Colorado jumps to the PAC 10 and other Big 12 schools start looking for a new home. Too early to tell but makes for interesting message board fodder.
