I'm calling it now...Hawks in the NIT (again).

Every darn team in the BT has had a losing streak and were subsequently written off by many of their fans. Unfortunately, the timing for our melt down is absolutely horrible. My uneducated guess is that they will right the ship, win two out of three and at least one in the BT tournament and proceed to the NCAA, where they will not get the kind of seed we would like to have seen. I just feel really bad for the kids right now, and I think Fran, given his comments, is taking a lot of the blame. But, he is a quality coach, he has seen situations like this before, and we have smart, talented kids on this team. Cheer em' on!

Yes he has, like last year, and apparently did not learn anything and has done nothing to correct it.

You know who else was freaking out about Iowa not making the tournament, my 6 yr old. Now i have to figure out when he created the username 83Hawk. kids these days.

Thanks easton! You have set my mind at ease! Everything is JUST FINE. Whew, that's a relief. Now I can step back from the ledge. Again..thank you sir (or ma'am)!

So, are you going on record that 19 wins is enough, and that Iowa can lose out and still make the NCAA?

Are you on record saying that Iowa will go to the NIT this year....ok, yes you are on record as your thread title says....

I am willing to wager that Iowa makes the NCAA tourney....are you? If Iowa does not make it, I am off this board for a year....will you bet that?

Don't step away from edge for me. Your display is entertaining. I am sure mommy is wondering why the sobbing is still going though.

Got this off the interwebs:

In the six major conferences (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, SEC, Pac Ten) and even the second-tier conferences (Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Mountain West, WAC), a team's record in conference play is one the most important indicators as to whether or not the team will be invited to the "Big Dance." Rarely will the NCAA Selection Committee invite a team that finishes below .500 in regular season conference play. It is also rare for the Committee to bypass a team in the league standings (or division within a league) to invite another team that finished lower in the standings. Since 1996, the only time that a team in one of the six major conferences was bypassed was in 1998 when Florida State (6-10 in ACC play) was invited and 7-9 Wake Forest was not. This was also the only time since 1996 that a team who finished four games below .500 in conference play received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Moreover, only six times in eight years has a team finished below .500 and been invited. Needless to say, there seems to be a severe conference bias where the NCAA Tournament is concerned.

It's not a criteria but more of a function of how quality wins/losses transpire over the course of a season. The committee has actually said that conference placement is not a criteria. It just so happens that doing good in your conference usually leads to a good tournament resume'.

Be careful of what you find on the interwebs.

Guys, the OP is not that far off. We had these same discussions at this point last year and then the Nebraska debacle happened which sealed our fate. If we drop one of the Purdue or Illinois games, we're NIT bound, barring winning the B1G tourney. Our non-conference schedule is going to hurt us yet again this year, and we don't have a lot of 'great' wins to speak of. Couple that with not defending home court (esp if we drop one to a bottom-feeder coming up) and I'd be concerned.

I think we find a way to limp in to the tourney...but we'll see an early exit.

Oh, and we won't be ranked come Monday...no freakin' way.

The conference schedule was much tougher this year. About the only way Iowa would be out of the tournament is if they lost the rest of the games.

How many weeks in a row were the Hawks ranked in the top 25 last year? There is no comparing last years situation to this year.

Ya, we're all pi$$ed we're on 3 game skid, but Iowa will be dancing...they will get it corrected, just need to eliminate to's, take better shots, make a few more ft's down the stretch...for cryin' out loud our losses are only by a couple of possessions.....We can compete w/anyone....The kids have to trust and believe...easier said than done, I know, so, I guess, we'll find out Sunday what they're made of...

Our RPI isn't very good.

NCAA selection committee loves the RPI.

I'm not saying I don't think we are going to make it... but there sure as **** isn't any forgone conclusion that we are.

Some serious heads being buried in the sand here.

If we win our last two home games I think we are a lock.

Anything else and I know what history has shown me about my heart getting torn open.

The Hawks can still finish fourth in the league and earn a BTT bye. Iowa will be Dancing. I'm just hoping for a six seed as it put us in the lower half of the bracket with the 2-3 seeds. We are a good team, not a great team but we if we catch a hot streak like our NIT play last season great things can happen. My biggest issue is Iowa not hitting FTs and the defense in the last two games being horrendous.

So now because we ONLY lost by a couple of shots, we're OK? Last time I checked we are 4-6 over our last 10. I still think we make the tourney and lose the first one. Point being that even though it's "only" a 3-game losing streak, it's pointing out a bigger issue with the team, in that the chemistry and trust level of the guys is not good. We're all pizzed off because we weren't supposed to be anywhere near the bubble this year. That, for me anyway, is what is making this such a big issue.

Lunardi's latest bracketology has us ALL the way down to a 6 seed after 3 straight losses. That's the same spot we were at after saturday's loss. Keep telling yourself we won't make it, if that makes you feel better inside.

You realize, I'm sure, that his 'latest' hasn't been updated with our most recent loss...it was a Thursday morning update. We need that win on Sunday.

I think the only way Iowa does not get in, is drop 4 more straight games.
Their RPI last year was like in the 70's. Now it is in the 30's. No comparison.

We get the two home wins we seal our fate, in a good way. A 10-8 Conf record is not going to get denied.
Hell, even MN got in with a losing record last year, and their wheels fell off at the end of the year too.

Ok...everybody listen...we aren't losing to Purdue and Illinois at home. Sure MSU, OSU, and Wisconsin beat us at home...but no way in hell Illinois and Purdue do it. No way.

We've hit our rough patch just as the other teams have done. The Indiana postponement screwed us...Basabe's illness hurt us...and we have absolutely run into teams that got hot. I know the defense has been terrible at times, but Shitley scoring 30 on you is like the second coming of Christ...its that rare. How many absolutely incredible shots did you see last night from Indiana...I saw about 15 or so...when guys averaging 10 and 6 points get 30 and 17 by throwing everything in the basket, you know you are screwed. it happened to Wisconsin losing a bunch of games at home.

The more disturbing thing to me is that I felt Fran got outcoached last night by, wait for it, Tom Crean. We let Indiana control tempo in the second half. The team is playing like they don't want to make mistakes...a recipe for disaster.

As crazy as it seems, once one of these talking heads talks about us on the bubble it will take off. If it gets mentioned, look out, it will snow-ball. Two more losses and our name being brought up.....
