I'm calling it now...Hawks in the NIT (again).

I definitely agree and I'm not on the "we're not making the tourney" bandwagon or anything like that. The problem is that OSU and MSU are way down this year (by their standards) and the middle of the pack is super soft compared to the previous few years. What I don't like are the "look at where we are from the Lick years" and "the goal was just to get to the tournament this year" lines of thinking. Any successful business, organization, or teams' goal is always to exceed to the goals, not just scrape by to meet the goals.

This.
I've thought for years that Iowa fans are waaaay to enamored with just not stinking. Particularly the fans who've never had a butt in a seat in a classroom in Iowa City.

Actually if the Hawks lose out, there's a fair chance they wont make it. Teams with a sub .500 records in conference play very very rarely make it to the NCAA tournament. It just doesn't happen. Not that anyone really thinks they'll lose to both Purdue and Illinois at home, but after last night its pretty clear that anything is possible. For some reason I still have a feeling Iowa wins @MSU.

Minny made it last year....

We just need to beat Purdue, period. If we do that we're essentially a lock for the NCAA's. That was goal #1 this season, make the dance. Do you really think if we beat Purdue and get a bit of confidence back, that we are going to go into Senior night against a bad Illinois team and lose? No way. The thing about this Iowa team is we are equally capable of making a deep run in the NCAAs as an 11 seed as we are a 3 or 4 seed. This team is good enough to hang with anyone, and if we get a couple breaks even spring a big upset. So we just need to get into the dance. I'm pumped for this game tomorrow. Hopefully the fans come support the Hawks, they need us more than ever now. Go Hawks!!!!

Nebraska is about to have a better conference record then Iowa. Everyone better wake up and take care of business Sunday

No worries, Iowa is not laying down tomorrow. They are going to get into a stance that stifles the Boilers.

Iowa by 12 to 15.

I understand pouting because your team lost some bad games but wow. I hope these are trolls and you don't actually believe that. If you think that Iowa won't make the NCAA you need to stop watching basketball and find a new hobby because you aren't very good at it.

Are you not into continuous improvement? Is Iowa not better each year under Fran?

Iowa has not been to the big dance in years. They will go this year. Evaluating reality is important in any business. What business are you in?????

Well said. This record is probably where most people thought it would be before the season. The order of the wins (hot early, cold late) is a huge factor in how people feel now. This never was a Special team, but it has been soooo long since Iowa was good enough to compete with anybody, that is hungry fan based got a little too excited.
perrenial winners (MSU) have rough spots (loss at home to Illini today) and their world is not coming to end.

I hope Hawk get put together a program that finishes over .500 in league ply for years to come. With that comes frustrating loses, but it's better than being an irrelevant program.

win the next two and the optimism will return

I took yesterday off from this site, sorry for the slow response. But I agree, my expectations went up as well and in no way did I think Iowa would lose the last 3 games. But it happened and Iowa went from being contenders in the B1G to let's just hang on for a tournament bid. As fans we can either go off the deep end because our expectations were not met (as many on here have) or we can circle the wagons, take a step back and remember our original expectations, and realize that not all is lost and this season is not as bad as some are making it out to be.

On selection Sunday I am going to enjoy hearing Iowa's name get called no matter what the seed, it has been too long.

Huh? What does being or not being an alumni have to do with it. Your giving a little too much credence to where someone went to school.

We are waaaay above "just not stinking".

Yep, taverhawk here.

This team can't beat anyone right now. They will win...at most....1 more game this season and will play in the NIT.

I have been a big supporter of Fran, but he has royally messed this team up.
Wrong.

Probably not because if you are Wing and Ling before the season you could go either way with those games. I'm not sure about everyone else but even before conference play started I would have pencilled in MN and Indiana as W's even being on the road.

Anyone who pencils in a win at Indiana as a sure thing at the beginning of the year doesn't know much about college hoops. Even after who they lost, IU would have been favorites. They were pre-season ranked in some polls.

I had both those games as losses.

I wasn't penciling in any away games as win considering Iowa has never won road games. Ever.
