I'm calling for Barta's Head - He needs to go

This guy has let coaches hang in the wind while he decides how to let outside forces dictate the story.

Todd Lickliter last year.
Kirk Ferentz with the non issue of no mass drug use on the Iowa Football team

And now this...

I don't care that he can raise money for Kinnick and Carver, go give him a job at UI Foundation then.

The guy has been the AD the last three times Iowa has been a national story for negative reasons.

Each time he has blundered it.

There seems to be an insistance amongst the Department that the state of Iowa is still totally rural and not connected to the outside world. They don't want to acknowledge that there is an internet, that there are bloggers.

He is incapable, and he should receive a vote of no confidence from KF and the Administration.

Before anyone jumps over me, ask yourself this very simple question.

If Dan Gable was the AD, do you think any of this would have happened the same way?

It is time for Iowa to step into the 21st century, and this guy does not have it.

HOW DO YOU SIT THERE AND LET THE NATIONAL MEDIA TEAR UP YOUR COACH LIKE THIS??

ADIOS GARY!

Gary Barta might be great guy but he has never looked the part of AD for Iowa. I can't wait for him to move on.

I get the feeling he is a the passive type that's how he comes across to me. I also think he he needs to grow a pair.

You aren't entirely accurate. Barta wasn't sitting there while the national media committed character assassination on someone that absolutely didn't deserve it. He was in Florida, golfing.

None of us are perfect and I've seen nothing that relates directly to him that makes me want him gone.
And as far as Gable being the AD,well that just doesn't even warrant a response. And Dan would say the same himself.

I don't think he was saying he is in favor of Dan Gable being the next AD, only that Dan isn't the kind of man to sit idly by while the national media takes pot shots on the character of Kirk Ferentz.

it would be nice to be a little more ahead of the game and to try and get in front of a story for once. if there ever is a time when kirk moves on, i'm hoping that barta isn't the AD, can't imagine how that would go.

BMG - Barta must go.

He botched the athletic department's handling of the rape case (female athlete was ridiculed by teammates while one of Barta's subordinates looked other way), he hired TL 4 years ago (when will it recover?), and now he's playing golf while our flagship program is being trashed nationally. I will admit he can raise funds well, but his leadership ability is of public record now.

Unfortunately, few D-1 programs have ADs that are respected by their fan bases - witness anger at Indiana recently, Minnesota, Kansas, Illinois, Georgia, UConn, Pitt, Michigan (at least their previous AD). It's almost as difficult to find a good AD as it is a FB coach.

Barta needs to go asap. he ran off Alford and is responsible for Todd Lickliter and the downfall of Iowa basketball as well as everything else.

As well as the hiring of Franny Mac...looked good on paper....not so much on the floor....different coach same story.

I agree, time for him to move on. He should have moved rivers to be at the press conference if Coach Ferrentz was on the road recruiting. Kirk or the AD needed to be at the press conference, and this is a key recruiting period for Kirk. Barta is part of the athletic "team" and he let his team down (the athletic department) and the football team. He should be the PR expert for the athletic department, or manage such person. He allowed a major PR mess for the university. He is not a leader. Mason needs to step up and let him go!

This sounds like another Pat Forde blog. Nice try.

The fans ran Alford off, dont kid yourself.

I'm convinced someone told Coach to stay on the road. That it wasn't that serious. Haddy? Mims? It wasn't Barta. We'll never know.

1. Why are you so convinced? and 2. Why not Barta?

Shame on KF if he is being convinced by anyone let alone the SID or Associate AD. KF is the leader and face of the program. The buck stops with him. Either way he used poor judgement on this one.

It is pretty incredible still nothing from Barta. Maybe he is consumed by some big decisions looming, or his seat is hot, but I doubt either one of those. A real head-scratcher.

I agree with the OP. Garta Barta has been anything but a stand up and be accounted for AD under choppy waters. He made one of the worst hires in the history of the sport with Lickliter and doesn't seem to know how to manage adverse situations.

C'mon, skinny. The Ferentz you and I know would not have let this pass. Sorry. SOMEBODY told him "no big deal". Barta was golfing in FLA. But, again we'll never know. A bad mistake.
