If we lose Jaleel Johnson...

Looked to me like his tweet kicked open the door for other coaches to call him. I'll go out on a linb and say he doesn't sign with Iowa. I also don't think he will be the only one not to.

that is really not going out on a limb too far - typically happens to iowa's benefit and detriment every year......

Doubt it has happened yet since it is a dead period. There is a lot of negative recruiting. It all depends on how KF and co handle it.

It is only my opinion but I think this kid is the biggest MUST GET, MUST KEEP player Iowa has come across in the last 5 years.
No such thing as a must get, period.
It takes way more than one player to make a team.
I would HATE to lose him for sure but just like Coker we really have no contol of what and how they percieve things.
IMO if he makes any kind of decision without knowing the situation,as best as they can divulge then he won't have the cajones to make it anywhere.
There is alot more to life than what most of these kids know and they too often think its some kind of 'jersey shore' episode.

A lot of rationalizing going on. It would suck if a 4-star recruit decomitted, it really would. They don't grow on trees, hence some of our issues the past year or two. If he left it would be Iowa headed in the wrong direction, not the right one. Of course it wouldn't end the program that one person decided to opt out and go elsewhere, but he wouldn't be the only one to have made that choice in recent years.

If Iowa loses JJ, it will just go to show how comfortable KF is in his position. His discussion of hiring his DC is that he is going to go about it like his first go around with hiring. That took a long time and the early recruiting showed the impact.

Basically any other coach in KF's position would probably be moving with a little more urgency. But he has no worries. He knows he can take another couple of years to turn around his program.

Just looking at the 1999 roster, there were some big names that were freshmen that year. There is no recruiting database to look at to see who was a redshirt freshmen but with names like Gallery, Nelson, Steinbach, Clark, Cole, Hodges, Mo Brown, Clauss, Steen, Pagel, Beutjer even if half were actually redshirt freshmen left over from the '98 class, that's still one hell of a class.

getting the original commitment of JJ - is that not a credit to KF? Or does someone else get that credit and only KF gets the heat if he goes elsewhere?

you are grasping at straws again, as seems to be your strong suit.

if he leaves that is on the University not KF
KF can do nothing about hiring DC til tomorrow, now the posting has come down he can start the interview proccess
not surehow hard that is to understand
not to mention KF was at the coaching convention in SA, where i believe was talking to people and putting feelers out to see who might be interested,
and right now i think he has more to worry about with Coker leaving and current commit thinking about changing their mind to contend with

No other coach has openings right. I mean wisky filled their four holes the next day. Wait you mean they didn't? Well I am sure that is ferentz's fault too.

While you are at it you should blame him for Texas am not having a d coordinator also. As well as Illinois.

And all those others coaches knew they would have a position to fill for the last 2 months? Seriously? Yes, the posting is just ending now. But why did they wait until the eleventh and then extend it until the 18th? You guys act like there is no difference between coaches getting jobs after the season and ones that announced their retirement during the season.

This is a dead period. Coaches cannot contact players. But it is a great opportunity to change the narrative. This is one thing KF really sucks at. He lets negative narratives spin without any attempt to change the ******. Announcing an exciting coaching hire could change the narrative quickly.

Instead, he'll let the narrative spin out during a dead period allowing 18 year old kids with lots of options to get very nervous.

Did it ever occur to you that KF is working on the DC hire now? Maybe cutting down the list. Lots of coaching changes going on Pro and College.

Please do me a favor. Show me a bad coaching hire that he has made.

Take a look at his past hiring practices and show one bit of difference from this one. If kids don't understand so be it. These coaches will be here a lot longer than they will. Do you run your life with no long term plans? I am guessing you need to step back and see a big picture once in a while.

So what you seem to be saying is that a decision that will have impact for a long time should be rushed to save one recruiting class that isn't even falling apart at the moment.

I think reads and takes these sites too seriously. He knows who his position coach will be (though not official yet) and should know the KF will bring in or promote a top notch DC.
Either the kid spooks easily or he wants to stay closer to Mama at MSU.

Jaleel's Twitter Feed has been pretty positive since the new year and mentions the Hawkeyes a lot..
