"IF" this is indeed Kirk's swan song, who do you want?

I wonder if Bri doesn't end up as OL or TE coach in Evanston next year? If fact, if there is significant change on Iowa's staff soon, I could see a few guys ending up there.

He could get a move to East Lansing Next year. I could see Fitz hiring him. I think his relationship with Kirk is strong since his son is on the team and Brian would fit Fitz's play style. I think Brian is a good position coach but not a good coordinator.

A couple of other names I will throw in now that Sumrall and Silverfield are off the table:

Andy Kotelnicki, OC, PSU. Very creative offensive mind with plenty of solid coaching experience along with broad midwestern recruiting ties.

Matt Patricia, DC, OSU. Extensive experience, including NFL HC with the Lions. Loved by his players. If there have been discussions behind closed doors involving Kirk, this would make sense with his ties to the Patriot organization.

Several of these candidates will be snapped up with so many vacancies out there, but my short list would be:

1. Clark Lea, Vanderbilt. Anyone who can build a powerhouse at Vanderbilt is special. This would be a home run.

2. Ryan Silverfield, HC, Memphis. He checks all of the boxes and I think he would be a good fit.

3. Jon Sumrall, HC, Tulane. Assuming Phil leaves with Kirk, we will need someone with a strong defensive background that can hand pick his guy.

4. Eric Morris, HC, North Texas. Classic "gets the most out of his talent coach"

5. David Braun, HC, Northwestern. He's better than people think. Also, a great character guy.

Anyone thinking that Fitzgerald is the right guy should read this article first:

Bunch of perverts, Mich St can have him.

Thoughts on Bielema? He has struggled a bit as of late but would be an otherwise good fit IMO if we could afford him

Again.
1. Bielema burned some bridges in IC. He won't be a candidate
2. Bielema has a clause in his Illinois contract prohibiting him from taking another B1G job

"Klieman, 58, was 54-34 at Kansas State with six bowl appearances and a Big 12 championship in 2022. Before that, he won four FCS national championships in five seasons at North Dakota State, where he was 69-6 as head coach.
Klieman’s team beat TCU in the 2022 Big 12 Championship Game before losing to Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, then finished 9-4 in 2023 and 2024 with back-to-back bowl victories. He is No. 2 in career coaching victories at Kansas State behind Bill Snyder, the legendary coach he replaced in 2019."

Getting out at 58 years old...I like it. That gives you a lot of life still to live with your friends and family!

One name I was thinking of that I would like but have no idea if he is interested as he's been out of the game for awhile but David Shaw from Stanford is a guy I always liked and feel would be a good fit.

Internally I still like Woods as my first choice but of they go external I would reach to to see if he was interested.

So about a month or so ago, I had a former ISU assistant who coached under McCarney come through my office trying to sell me something or maybe he was repping a freight company. Whatever it was, I had enough conversation to figure this out...so he likely wasn't selling something and was coming to check on us or I woulda tossed him out before we got that far. I think he brought bagels too. So again, another tickmark in his favor. He's been out of the loop for quite some time and has only scant ties with people left in the racket.

He said he definitely heard some chatter for awhile about Jay Norvell. Admittedly he said it was just chatter and could have just been someone spinning yarn. But, it rings pretty true. Some of us would have looked at and said "Yeah. I can see that." Course, not so much after CSU parted ways. A guy with Iowa ties, Iowa coaching ties, and has some group of 5 head coaching experience.

I brought up Woods. And he's like "heck yes. good choice", but said he'd heard no chatter. Which again, he said was just lack of chatter experienced by a guy well out of the loop.

So, yah. I was gonna post about it. But that's even more useless than me posting about eating brunch at a table right next to Gronowski, Dunker, and Jones. Which, yeah...I do think makes me famous. I better go add that to my Wikipedia page. And what they ordered. Which, yes, I am fully aware my Wikipedia page is just a Word document my wife put on my desktop screen. But it looks like a real Wikipedia page. I've known for awhile. I do it just to humor her. Let her think she can control me.
