If Gary Dolphin retires, who replaces him?

Having some minimal radio experience calling some high school games, play by play is much tougher than color. There's a difference between making a few commmets in between plays and getting in and out of brakes as well as interviews. On top of all that you have all the sponsors.

I'd be all for giving Hassel a shot in the future but I'm also not in a rush to get rid of Dolph.

What do you mean I gotta understand, you just said the same things I just said about the difference between doing play by play and color.

I think Paul Burmeister has a helluva damn good resume compared to Chris Hassel. Burmeister played the game so he knows the play by play of what formations and shifts and motions are being used pre-snap probably much better than Hassel or other less studied people would.
 
Mike Grimm. He's the voice of the Gopher football and men's basketball games today. Iowa boy, born and raised in Manchester, graduate of Luther College. Worked with Gonder at WMT doing grunt work at Iowa football games, was the voice of Iowa women's basketball broadcasts. Did some work in St Louis for the Cardinals. He's young too... maybe mid 40's in age???
 
Brent Balbinot will be the next Iowa play by play guy. He was an Iowa grad. He was a sports director at a Cedar Rapids radio station. He did Iowa women's Basketball and Iowa baseball for years. Hawkeye Sports properties and Learfield sports employee and they have worked with him for years.

Word was he passed up several jobs just waiting for this one to open up. Was suggested to him that he needs to go take one of those jobs to hone his skills even more and then come back when Gary retires. So he took the Toledo play by play job last year and is the current Voice of the Rockets.

That will be who replaces Gary anyway. Eddie, I have no clue, but I'm guessing will be an ex player to do the Color commentary.

Brent is good. The UNI announcer is very good as well.

Loved Chuck as a player and he was an awesome Hawkeye but he isn't very good at color commentary and I can't imagine he would even do play by play. Definitely not feeling Chuck Long for that gig. Chris Hassel is a good idea though.

Brent is a great guy, I actually know him and he would be a great fit. On a funny note, he was in one of my classes at Iowa back in the day. In our class we had to tell everyone what we wanted to do career wise one day. Brent blurts out..."I want to be the next Brent Musberger of sports broadcasting." Everyone in the class kind of laughed about it.

Brent would be a great choice.

To those throwing out the names of former football players....forget it. Ain't gonna happen. For one thing, whoever replaces Dolph has to do both football and basketball.
