I will be 'on the air' Tuesday at 10am

It won't exactly be 'on the air', rather, video, audio and chat at webcastonelive.com

Here is a link to where you can watch it

I 'cleared this with the tower' at Clear Channel and they do not view this as a violation of my non compete...Deace and I will likely produce a twice weekly 'podcast' and 'videocast' at Mac's studios starting soon, sometime in April...focus will be primarily on college football.

Tomorrow, we'll talk a variety of sports, including Hawkeye sports, plus a few topics that will likely come out of nowhere.

As an aside...

Mac started this a few years back, and he was well ahead of his time with this sort of platform...I think its still ahead of its time, but that time has moved closer.

While I think stations like WHO are always going to have value and viability, there is going to be an opportunity in the foreseeable future where outlets like this will empower broadcasters to more greatly control their own brands. I think within five years we'll be able to punch MillerandDeace | Facebook or whatever into an audio device in our vehicles, and listen to content on demand or live...

I think states are going to be blanketed with 'wifi' coverage...once that happens, then things like this will explode.

Wifi not needed with cellular data connections.

As long as you guys broadcast from the skywalk studio so I can come down there with my 'Let's Get MAD (miller and deace) Again' t shirt with your two ugly mugs on the front and stand and uncomfortably watch you broadcast, then I think it's a great idea.

lol...had not thought about that acronym

I agree with this. I drive from Ames to Eastern Iowa a lot and run Pandora on my android the whole way. Wifi just doesn't reach far enough to be effective out of town. As long as the data packages stay/become unlimited, that will be the future for internet. Also, the speed rates of Verizon's 4g is a lot faster than any internet I can get in at my house.

Already can. 3.5mm plug from my stereo to the android.

5yrs? LOL. Ok Jon, tell me more about the death of radio.

Didnt say radio was going to die. I think within five years, these types of audio devices will become a part of what the auto industry provides...4G should be commonplace by then, and that will greatly increase the amount of data people and stream wirelessly, which will make what I am talking about much more likely. I used the term wifi just so folks would understand...might not be that.

There are already towns with wifi nets...I think, for the most part, states will be covered at some point. I think some radio towers might actually make more money by being wifi repeaters or cellular towers as opposed to what they are earning now.

Data will become tiered and unlimited will be out the window...unfortunately.

Someone is going likely offer unlimited. It's tough putting the toothpaste back in the tube...people have enjoyed unlimited for a long, long time. To take that away would be akin to newspapers putting up paywalls and thinking people are going to get in line to pay for what they have been getting for free.

The market will find a free model. Margins will be smaller, but market share opportunities huge...unless of course there is a real issue with bandwidth

I promise that unlimited data as we know it will go away with major carriers. Will it come back? Maybe, but it's going to cost 3x what you're paying now for unlimited.

Perhaps that coverage will also extend to in house data access, spark a brand new brand of 'home entertainment' that could compete with DirecTv, etc.

I don't know about this. I know that AT&T already has it and Verizon said that it is on the way. But, they are both advertising their newest phones and the capability to stream netflix and run video chats via skype. If they limit the data plans, then you can pretty much throw those out the window because you are going to blow right through your data allotment. Also, Google is talking about using cloud storage for music in their next release. If the big companies start to tier the data packages then how can they realistically keep customers that want these features?

If Sprint keeps their unlimited plan then everyone that uses the full capabilities of their smartphone will quickly move over there. That will force AT&T and Verizon to make adjustments. In the end, I would guess that we will see tiers for the low end users with 1 or 2 GB limits with an unlimited plan also being offered similar to how the voice plans are now.

if this is the wave of the future - well, i guess....maybe.....what is mac's world live?

Content how, when and where you want it is what I am talking about. Multimedia offerings Mac has been doing this for a few years. What he lacks at this time is simulcasting support from a terrestrial station.

Right now and at this stage of the evolution, yeah, it's not pervasive and nowhere close to top of mind. But I think you'll see that this sort of offering, especially if backed by a terrestrial signal to launch it, is going to become quite common

They will keep customers by offering "unlimited" plans at a huge premium. 95% of smart phone users don't fully utie their phones. 5% of those with data plans account for 90% of traffic. Tiered plans will appeal to more than enough people and those who want unlimited will pay dearly for it. Also, verizon knows they have the best network and so does their customers. Sprint simply doesn't have the breadth of coverage that verizon does. If they ever invest in infrastructure then guess what will happen to their prices...they will follow the major companies.

Then there is the wonderful practice of bandwidth throttling. Many "unlimited" plans today are not truly unlimited in that companies will slow the data connections of its heaviest users. this will continue to happen in the future.

all i know is that I can turn my radio on to 1040 and listen to whoever is reading the sports. my radio doesn't have the abilities otherwise. 1040 is a pretty big 'brand'.

No doubt and it will be

For others, I would say the bag phone was pretty convenient once upon a time too

I see phones as the primary delivery mechanism for data and entertainmant. i think the genie is out of the bottle on unlimited data. speed will cost us just like the current home delivery model for internet. im not sure i see how the little guys make it in a freelance internet delivery model. how are guys like M&D going to get critcal mass to make it via ads on their podcasts. i would think you would need more than 1000-2000 twitter followers to get the word out about podcasts. This site is a pretty good launch pad for steering traffic to the delivery mechanism but I dont see enough people streaming to make it work. Perhaps M&D have a better read on things than I do. I wish you both the best.

I didn't leave a great radio station to work at and for with the goal in mind of doing podcasts the rest of my days.

As I said before, I think the best launching pad for getting control of your own brand is to have this sort of technology with a terrestrial stick behind you. However, I can't go down that road (terrestrial stick) until my non-compete expires. I am hopeful that doing some podcasts in the interim will establish one piece of the puzzle
