I really miss Raveling’s recruiting

Yeah, it was amazing what Davis did with that last group of Raveling recruits. Such a disappointing loss to UNLV. But we had the talent to hang with the big dogs.

And the football and wrestling? What has changed? Oh yeah, we have the nations best fund raiser as our AD. Too bad thats all he can do.

Yep, that Iowa team was legit. They were the only Iowa team in my memory (born in 77 so I don't remember the 1980 Final Four team) that legitimately had the ability to win it all. That UNLV game was a crusher.

Iowa needs to hire a coach that can really RECRUIT. At least, get some assistants that are beasts in that facet.

How about at end of last season. No defensive specialist brought in. Staff+ players could have got a few tips. Yup STAFF also. Win next things better. Go Hawk Players

After 2004 I thought we had the next Hayden Fry. Boy was I wrong :)
After 20 seasons, Hayden's winning percentage at Iowa was .6008403
After 20 seasons, Kirk's winning percentage at Iowa is .6007905

You're correct, he's not the next Hayden Fry, by .0000498 percent.

Of course he was. My point wasn't to pick on Hayden, I was going to put that in my initial post, but I thought it was obvious to all. He brought to life an Iowa program that many thought was gone for good. And for that alone, I'm forever grateful, and he'll always be the man. Always. But, I like to look at facts too, particularly if some comparison is being made that I don't think is borne out by those facts.

If you think all Hayden Fry did fornthe Iowa program was that then you don’t really follow Hawkeye football.

I know what you meant. Coach Fry got Us up and running across the board again.Always enjoy saying that.Win Tomorrow and then.. Hawk Players Tough.

Absolutely. Bret Bielema had a .739 coaching record at Wisconsin. Paul Chryst has a .778, which is on pace with some of the all time coaching legends in the sport. But at Wisconsin, there will always be only one Barry Alvarez (.609).

Hayden is what made it possible for KF to have "down" years. In 1979/1980/1981, a seven-win season was damn near "magical". Now? Even 9-win seasons are dumped on...

Hold your horses . We haven’t made the 4th just yet
That's what I say, plus you have to put an asterisk on the play- in game as we never actually made the field of 64. So 2 wins in 7 years and no wins in the Big Tourney. That alone would get some coaches in this league fired as their fan base expects just a little more than that.

Never forget that loss. Should not have happened. Hawks so good. Kevin Gamble last shot vs Billy Tubb's team. And him going ballistic. Oak St? No matter. Unlv so sad..
I replayed that last shot against the hot tub rebels in my mind for years and years. To be tortured is to be a Hawkeye fan.

First of all, Ferentz plays one more game per year than Fry.

Second, Fry didn’t schedule a pussified OOC like they have now. His first four years he played 6 top ten teams in the non-con games. His average SOS vs Ferentz was also way higher.

Ferentz should win more games because he plays more in a season, and he has three ridiculously soft non-con teams every year.

Great story from that year was that a bunch of players on Iowa’s top-ranked basketball team beat up some Iowa wrestlers, then ranked No. 2, and chased them through downtown bars. Think about that — hoopsters beating the s—t out of usually tough-nosed grapplers.

That Iowa team had some badasses.
