I Really Enjoy Watching Iowa State.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not one or have ever been one to have to hate the other school in the state just because I'm a true fan of the Hawkeyes. They are my first luv, as a team goes. I've tuned in to Iowa State in the past to watch just as a general fan with a little interest in the in-state Clones.

But, I hate to say that I really enjoy watching Iowa State play. You know you are going to tune-in and the game is going to be exciting. They probably have the best and most aggressive defense in the Big 12 and they have an exciting QB, one who makes plays. With Iowa, your not sure your going to get an exciting game at all and most the past few years have been quite boring to watch.

I think Ferentz and Iowa have to be real careful here as there is that chance of a shift in the state. Yes, you are still gonna have all the die-hard Hawk fans but the national attention is focusing on our brethren at this point. Matt Campbell is doing a terrific job there and making Iowa play 2nd fiddle. Sure, he might be gone after this year, but say he stays.
Why don't you run along over cryfan and be your clown friends. I suppose you'll be posting one of these for basketball also! Yay! We are now cyhawk nation!! I'm very disappointed in you MelroseHawkins.

I find it interesting that Campbell in his 3rd year has far a greater collection of talent at RB and WR than Iowa has ever had at once in any single season during KF's 20 year tenure.

Good grief some of you guys kill me.

We Iowa fans watch and follow our team because they are OUR team and we are invested in them in one form or another.

But it has not been an entertaining product for MANY years. That is why probably 99% of FOOTBALL FANS will surf right by our game when on television.

We will most likely remain THEE program in the state as Campbell will be gone sooner than later and by comparison our program has had stability in the past forty years, but that has negative consequences as well obviously.

I have watched Iowa St a few times after we played them. They ARE entertaining to watch as they play an aggressive style. Their qb is a stud, lots of moxy and highly entertaining. I am not sure we have seen a qb like that since Tate.

I think Purdy is pretty good, and I'd much rather have him than Stanley, but I'll be curious to see how he does against a real defense, either in their bowl game or against us next season. These are the vaunted defenses he's faced or will be facing.

Kansas 79
Kansas State 81*
Texas 86*
Oklahoma State 93
Baylor 96
Texas Tech 111

As much as I hate Iowa right now they still have a good defense. The coaching staff and offense do them no favors.

They do, but this myth about how piss poor the Big 12 is over rated, and frankly a yawn fest. The Big 10 has been giving up yards and points just as much as the rest of the conferences. The Big bad SEC is giving up a shit ton of yards and points as well but ESPN will not acknowledge that of course.

Its an offensive game for the most part anymore, so this lack of defense narrative doesn't hold as much water as it used to.

I find it entertaining to watch a team like ISU play aggressively on both sides of the ball and attack opponents. However I still wonder how long Campbell with stick around?

ISU is playing really well now and their games are quite entertaining. Peaking at the right time.
Haven't been able to see many of their games. I don't get the Home and Garden Channel or the Wallace's Farmer Network. I am looking into getting the Longhorn Network, though. Heard they have a documentary on there this week about the ISU recruiting girls...or wait, is that on the Livestock Channel. So much better when there were only 3 channels.

He could get away with his offense 16 yrs ago because he was still fresh meat just getting going at Iowa. They all have caught up and adjusted and he hasn't evolved with the game.
I think you missed my meaning. 16 years ago we had a mobile QB that made us hard to defend. Ever since, Kirk has acted like he doesn't even want that type of player. How foolish is that?

I pretty much quit watching Iowa football when ferentz shook up his staff so he could hire his son. I don't really watch Iowa State but they are doing pretty good. The head coach seems to know what he is doing. I got hooked on Iowa football when Hayden Fry took over, and it took Ferentz to unhook me. I don't think I want to get involved in all the emotions of being a fan with Iowa State or any other team. I follow the hawkeye basketball team, and maybe watch a game every once in awhile, but its pretty nice not to be absorbed by it. Its kind of strange to be a fan of a bunch of people you don't really even know. I guess its in the nature of the world to love a winner.
Actually, it is in the nature of men to want to be part of a tribe. Sports is one of the few things that fills that need in the modern age, even though it is a very poor substitute.

Their QB is a lot of fun to watch as is Butler and Montgomery. Seeing how ISU uses Butler makes me more mad about how Fant is being used.
Some coaches understand you need playmakers on offense. You can play great team defense, but you need playmakers on offense. Kirk seems to have a talent for not getting them or not using them when he does.

I think overall Big 12 defenses are below avg for P5...but it’s also hard to tell at times bc i think overall big 12 offense are well above avg..

IDK Campbell seems pretty content in Ames and seems to be building a winner there and they are putting another what $90 mil or so into that place the next couple years... Guarantee u if they make the big 12 title game he bumps up from $3.5 mil to about $4mil a year.

I’ve already prepared my mind for what is to come and that is an ISU program that is going to make some noise so long as Campbell is there.

Iowa State has grasped the concept of a mobile QB who can make plays with his feet. It changes everything for the defense.

Iowa, on the other hand, has not. Our mobile QBs don't play, and then transfer. Stanley is one of the least mobile QBs in the United States.

Nothing is going to change until we play a QB that brings the run-pass option into the playbook.

Perplexing, to say the least.

Is it any wonder that Kirk's only two Big 10 championships have been with our most dynamic dual threat QBs. Chandler could move also and so could Stanley and CJ.

I disagree that they dont play mobile QBs but Nate is not mobile so we need a dominant offensive line and much better running game. I wouldnt put it all on Nate, I would put some on the coaches and offensive run production.
