If we ever lose the Neb game I am going to have a week from hell. All in good fun but I am not looking forward to that. I will enjoy when we win and I get to gloat all year.

I can guarantee you that NU fans are chalking up games against Iowa as being in the likely W column. They will be focusing on OSU and Penn State as their "equals". A skewed perspective, doomed for disappointment, I'll grant you...but NU fans and humility generally do not mix. There are a few sane ones over on the NU rivals board...but a vast majority that believes NU is going to dominate its division of the Big Ten.

We are approaching 10 yrs of the Huskers being a non-player, yet they continue to run smack. If that doesn't shut them up, then I am 10000% convinced they will be one of the more annoying fan bases in the B10.

Im quite confident we will own the series over the next few decades. But theyll get one here and there and crow like they won the NC.

In a lot of ways, they will view Iowa much as Iowa fans have viewed Iowa State in the past. They will see a game with much to lose and little to gain. They SHOULD win, so if they lose it hurts their program. As they see it. Mostly they won't verbalize quite so plainly, but visit their boards and on this topic you will quickly see that perspective.

...because Iowa has such a strong record of sustaining success for more than two years at a time.

Just saying.

It would seem that you are portraying the exact thing you despise from the other side. From your point of view Iowa will dominate and NU will be a mere speed bump on your schedule, while your true rivals will be OSU and Mich. Yet if an NU fan thinks this same way they are the most annoying person in the world. This is an interesting dynamic.

I cant wait to settle this one the field.

I too live in Omaha. The thing you have to remember is that they already think they're better than you so if Iowa loses, you are no worse in their estimation. They expect to win.

Conversely if Iowa wins; then you can FINALLY have the satisfaction of having won a battle on the field instead of the battlefield of "past accomplishments" in which Nebraska always wins.

What does Northwestern have to do with this?

As did Nebraska in the 2000's... just saying. Bill Callahan anyone?

That's not my point. Try 1962-2003 on for size. 35 consecutive bowls. 39 consecutive 9 or more win seasons. Your 2000s weren't that great in the grand scheme of things. Yes, you went to a couple BCS bowls. 2002-2004 was great. 2005-2008? Meh. Couple of 6 win seasons, including a losing season in 2006... a promising yet underwhelming 2008 campaign (fairly equal to Nebraska's, really, and we were digging out from the wreckage that was our abominable 2007 nightmare). 2009 you have another break out year and suddenly you're a consistent national power all over again?

Over the 2000s we had 84 wins. You had 80. And that was our least successful decade since the 1950s.

Perspective. You can bet that we sustain our upswing. I've been following Iowa football for a long time. I grew up an Iowa fan. I still like the Hawkeyes a lot. I don't see this success being sustained. KF builds a core of really good players, they learn and become great, they graduate, and then they have to rebuild. They don't sustain.

What have you done for me lately? Honestly, I respect Nebraska. Just don't try to come onto our message boards and disrespect us when you had to leave your conference because the South schools made you guys feel irrelevant this past decade.

Hey bo...Harvard and Yale once dominated college football as well. How does that apply to the current state of their football programs?

Same principle applies to NU. Anything that happened more than a decade ago is pretty much irrelevant to today. Yes, Nebraska...much as Yale and Harvard...has a storied past. Something to be very proud of. Yet, not really noteworthy when comparing the current state of NU and Iowa.

Iowa, as of this decade, is a clearly superior program to NU...I mean, how many BCS bowls has NU been to in the past 5 years or so? You guys couldn't even beat my 6-6 Cyclones IN LINCOLN...without our starting QB and star running back out with injury and a flu plague sweeping the team. What does that say about "Nebraska being back"?

Im quite confident we will own the series over the next few decades.

Based on what, exactly?

Contrary to what many Hawk fans (myself included) would love to believe, NU under Pelini is going to be pretty good, and continue to get better.

I think the Hawks will only get better as well, but I see this series pretty even over the next 10 meetings.

And if they do sustain it will you become a Hawkeye fan again?

They've won the B12 north something like twice in the past 9 yrs or so..... and they are talking down to Iowa? We have 4 top tens in that same time frame.
The 90's are over.... deal with it.

We had a great 80's, but we don't really bring it up. Neb had a great run, no one will EVER have that 35 year thingy they had. Come on though, I had a great porn stache' in the 80's but I'm not going to tell my grandkids about the glory days.

BTW, I only quoted you to say I agree with you.

It wasn't just the South- they struggled enough in the Big 12 north this decade.
I get a chuckle the way they are beating their chests after going 10-4, talking about "being back" They played "well" in 2 whole games last year.
