Hubbard to Announce

A MUST READ is embedded in the above link but here it is just in case you missed it.

Hubbard embraces second chance | InsideNova

Read between the lines here: Among the schools in attendance were Kansas State, Rutgers, Louisville, Penn State, Nebraska and Iowa. The last three schools sent their head coaches.

First of all, I believe in second chances... How do hawk fans feel about signing a player, who spent just one month shy of 4 years in prison?

I feel somebody should start yet another Hubbard thread so we are all crystal clear on when he will announce his decision.

If you look at some other threads on Hubbard you will find that the vast majority welcome him into the Hawkeye family. Me included.

It doesn't matter. Once you are a Hawk, you are always a Hawk. As long as his time here is spent productive, which it will. It doesn't matter.

Us Hawkeye fans will treat him as family. That much is for certain. No matter what you may read on these here boards...

i am not a fan of him coming to iowa, but i hope he finds success in life. my opinion is based on the current fan perception of the program rather than him personally.

I would have a bigger problem if he was 21 or 22 and fresh out of prison. At that point, I would still question his motives for wanting to play college basketball. Since he is 25 years old (and coming from someone who was arrested when I was 23), there is a huge difference in maturity. Also at his age, we know that he is not out to only seek the NBA. He is playing for a college degree and a future. I would be excited to land him, but I would expect that he will be on a short leash so to speak. One slip up and you are done. He seems like the type of guy that will embrace the second chance. I hope this is the opportunity that he has been looking for, and I hope that he has matured.

Well thought out- i can buy this...

If he has turned his life around and has the game people seem to think he does, I could see Hubbard emerging by mid-season (no moped jokes, please) as a leader on the team, perhaps taking over the role Jarryd Cole had. I don't see anyone else on the roster filling those shoes.

At 25 years old, my concern is he will only be playing to get to the NBA as fast as possible. I don't have any concerns about citizenship but he needs to go ASAP if he wants NBA money. His tenure at Iowa could be quite short.

He only has 2 years regardless.

What's his position? Combo Guard? Wondering which current hawk he takes minutes from, May, Gatens, etc.? iowa must plan on going small if he starts...

I don't think we need to worry about him leaving early. He's 25, if was NBA caliber there's no reason to come to Iowa first, he'd just be going.

Now everyone thinks he is NBA material. I didn't know he was. My guess is he wants the education. If he was NBA material he would have much better schools to look at.

At 6'5" I don't he is going to take Coles place. We need 6'8" to 6'11" for the vacancy left by Cole. Hubbard sounds like he is more of a combo guard and a good one. If he says he is a hawkeye on Saturday then I fully welcome him to the family. Driving the getaway car, then turning himself in is not like pistol whipping someone or raping someone. He has shown his sincerity to turn his life around and I respect that in anyone. If he goes onto another school I wish him nothing but the best.

I'm fine with him coming to UI. If indeed that is his wish. He's done his time. Crowds at road games in the B1G will be merciless, unfortunately.
Please, Anthony, when you announce. No matter what you announce. Please don't do the "Hat Line-up."

He means Hubbard would take over the leadership role vacated by Cole.
