Oh for crying out loud. Can you tiptoe around this any softer. The Iowa coaching staff simply blew it by not offering Martin when they could have an exclusI've chance to lock him up.

Camps are just about the end all be all for evaluating talent now. For coaches they get to physically be with and talk to the kids. They also get to see them matched up with their peers to see how they do in a competitive environment. Best of the best/all star type of setting. You just can’t hardly beat that. Sure there will always be a place for evaluating tape from games too. The obvious studs are just that obvious. But if there are any questions or doubt about a kid (say they are an average sized skill positioned white kid from Iowa) Be it a stereo type or not. Coaches are going to probably hold out their judgements on a kid till they can see him in a camp. KF was no different than any other coaches really. He was what the 3rd or 4th D1 school to offer within a week or so? That’s only significantly behind the curve if you’re of the thought he should have ‘known’ he was a stud just based on his tape and whatever time they’d already spent with him. And if that’s the case then all the other coaches are just as guilty of overlooking him. Look the kid is guilty of being a skill positioned white kid from Iowa. That’s it. If he went to a power house of a HS in the south playing top competition with the same stats he’d already be committed to Bama, Clemson FSU pick your southern school..
Yeah dammit those coaches should be right 100% of the time. I mean come on we are all perfect in our jobs so they should be too! Funny how only 4 or 5 years will tell who is right, but Guffus is always right! Can foresee the future and the past!
Wasn't Martin a 2 star when he came to the Iowa camp? These same 'experts' who are saying the coach screwed up, would have been screaming about 'wasting' a scholarship on a non-athletic 2 star from Iowa if they would have offered and Martin would have accepted right away. Just like the VAST majority did when the offered Jewell a scholly, etc... I'm glad these posters are just message board morons and not actually involved in the sport But what do we knowSorry. You're right. My apologies.
That's a fair way of looking at it where I'm not sure what his explanation for it would be other then he slipped through the cracks. They have/had offers out to multiple other WRs all over the place priotized higher too that they were waiting on also. Recruiting is a fluid thing that changes all the time when factoring in everything it's just not as much of a no brainer as people try to make it out to be. Who knows what other factors there are we aren't even privy to. Maybe some of the other kids Iowa was after longer with a built in relationship they were wanting to wait on till they decide. It's all hard telling and I'm not going to just beat up the staff over 'missing' on him early when they've been right about so so many others in the past. To expect a perfect shooting percentage is asking a lot. Even Steph Curry misses free throws in the finals.Wisconsin fans would never complain about taking so long to offer Martin...unless Martin happened to live in Madison. I'm not going as far to say the coaches completely dropped the ball. I just think it's a ding to their "they're really good at spotting talent" rep. If you are that good at spotting talent, you don't need to see him camp to know he's worthy of an offer, let alone let him leave your camp without one. It just looks more and more like he is far from a tweener on whether he deserves a scholarship or not. Tweeners who live in your back yard should need a camp to secure an offer. Kids Oregon and Michigan want shouldn't need a camp to spot.
What evidence do you have he would have committed (and stayed committed) had Iowa offered him earlier?Oh for crying out loud. Can you tiptoe around this any softer. The Iowa coaching staff simply blew it by not offering Martin when they could have an exclusI've chance to lock him up.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. What a lazy argument. Are you insinuating that Kirk should only recruit off star rankings or that fans should go out and scout themselves? As a fan, the only thing I have to go off of is recruiting rankings so I'll get excited when we land a high ranked kid and not so much when we don't. That said, I don't just assume a kid sucks when he's not ranked high. I wouldn't have been on here raving about Oliver if he committed 2 months ago. That doesn't make me wishy washy. It makes me a fan that doesn't have time to go out and scout for myself.
As for the coaches, they should do a better job of scouting Iowa City kids than any other D1 coach or any recruiting service. The only way this wasn't a failed evaluation is if the other kids they were in on are all better than Oliver.
Should have , huh? Well I suggest you geniuses quit wasting your time on this site and get accredited.....https://recruitlook.com/about-us/become-a-college-scout/Offer should've been made after his camp WR MVP
