Howe: These Hawkeyes Not Ready for Primetime

The problem is this, KF can't even bring himself to publicly say anyting critical of the offense. When even remotely cornered his response was "well if we shut them out, 3 points would have been enough".
Like I said technically I agree and shutouts should be the goal every week. But come on man, any other coach at any other school that doesn't have his son working for him would have said the defense did it's job but the offense did not.
I know coaches don't throw anyone under the bus, but any coach anywhere would have said that things are not going well on offense.
So he isn't ever going to talk demotion of letting go. He hitched his wagon. Which leaves it up to Bart's. How many questions do you think he will ask? As I showed in another post, avg offenses, not top of the conference, have put up over 30 on every one of our remaining games except Wisconsin. Wisconsin may as well be in a different division than us.
I mean come on, if our defense was giving up 40 to Michigan, 40 to PSU, which is the equivalent of our scoring. Everyone would be freaking out. Why because we hardly rarely ever give up that many. Much less to nearly every P5 program we have played.
If that isn't biased, I don't know what is.
Did KF actually say the bolded quote above? Wow...was he talking about the Michigan game or the PSU game? PSU was averaging about 47 points per game coming in, weren't they? I don't know what Michigan was putting up...obviously in either case the resume is bolstered by beating on some non-con patsies, but that is still an absolutely remarkable statement from a head coach. As a defensive coordinator, how does that not gnaw at you, given how the defense has performed and some of the spots they have been put in?

Wow...

Wow...

I can't recall the exact words, but yes that is what he said.
My point is that everyone knows if we ran around scoring 30-35 points on everyone, OSU, Wisconsin,PSU freaking Alabama, but were also giving up 40. The shit would be hitting the fan. Then to make it worse every team like Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Nebraska was holding these same opponents to 20.
As someone else said, the first step is to admit there is a problem. I'll add the second is to identify it.

Btw, I'm not saying it's scheme. We have tried a couple with pretty much the same result.
Besides the pros use this scheme and win games. They score points with it.

Oh boy.
I think they are going to have a real tough sell on that.
Anyone else notice as of today there are a lot more game tickets for sale? "We barely lost to ranked teams" isn't covering it.
They have gone through a couple recruiting cycles. These are their guys.
There isn't an excuse for why we are not competing in Indy. Not one except the coaches.
The is absolutely zero, zilch, no "sell" needed.

None.

Period...

Gary Barta has a contract in place long enough for Kirk to retire in a couple years and GB can make the phantom "hire" of BF at that time and will be fully supported by the BOR and Harreld. Barta doesn't need your, mine, or anyone else's approval of the "sell" outside of Kirk, Harreld, and the BOR.

7-5 with a 10 win every decade or so has always and will always keep putting butts in seats because 99% of Hawkeye fans love the program just the way it is. Similar to bad reviews on Amazon, the only people you hear are the ones on message boards and twitter bitching and they don't represent the population as a whole.

Funny shit is many (if not most) people picked them for 7 - 5 or 8 - 4, but when the losses actually come well we are throwing furniture out on the lawn and setting it on fire! We expected the run game to be much better than what it is. That is our problem.

Remember back in '12 when we blamed James Vandenburg for the shit show that was that offense? JV was a pretty good QB and so is Nate Stanley.

It was a typical B1G game with probably some missed calls both ways. Been that way in the B1G forever. Fortunately we have replay today to correct some (not all) of the errors.
