Howe: These Hawkeyes Not Ready for Primetime

Rob I was at the game as well and I thought the stripes looked great as always (been to several of these stripe themed games in person). Fans showed up and Kinnick was full. And, yes I thought it got loud at times (3rd downs). But, I thought it was one of the more subdued night games that I can remember at Kinnick. But, I suppose, 12 points of offense will do that...even if you pull out all of the event stops (fly overs, fireworks, Stanzi, etc). The ABC stoppage in play probably did not help. Seemed like a resigned feel throughout the stadium.
And it was f...ing cold

Rob, being in press conferences, player/coach interviews and otherwise more aware of what is going on in the football building than us average joes,do you get the sense of any urgency in the coaching staff about the offense, or is it just keep plugging away, doing the same thing?

The philosophy and foundations of this offense won’t change. It’s been this way for 21 years under three coordinators.

Definitely not among the loudest in terms of sustained volume. But crowd was loud during tunnel walk and rest of pregame. It was ready to go.

Then watching that offensive performance coupled with the cold took the wind out of everyone’s sails, IMO.

Well, with Kirk on for another 10 years, followed by 35 more of BF at the helm, the cycle of football philosophies will shift back to a Ferentz coached team at some point.

Well, there you have it. A testament to the dogged pursuit of something. I would like to know, some day, why the Brad Banks QB model was abandoned. That is confounding. Did the film of those games get destroyed?

Edit - It seems to have survived elsewhere.

Iowa's offense should get some relief next week against Purdue, but then Northwestern and Wisconsin are up.

Offense only has to be avg against Purdue, likely gonna have to be a little better vs. NW.

Will need to have a whole other level show up vs. Wisc.

Lost in all the offensive struggles is being -6 in turnovers in the last 8 qtrs... the combo of he two has been brutal.

Find the run game....somehow, someway...

Oline....

If this offense doesn’t have a home run threat at RB, it’s going to look exactly like this.

all of these issues have existed forever, but We overcome them a little more when we have a Wadley (or canzeri). Special seasons happen when we have that RB and a QB who overcomes bad play calling and bad OL

1-10 the past three years against conference teams with a winning record. Iowa really does have a fake ID.

Brian is just starting to get his footing. Let’s give him another couple of years to figure it out. :-/

this record also shows how bad the big 10 is too since we’ve won games

Second week? There were quarters of play against Miami Ohio, Iowa St and Middle Tennessee we failed to score a touchdown. We have one of the worst offenses in college football

Yes and that should have been a hint that the hawks were scoring much less against the same teams as others were.

You will know when Kirk has a really good offense when even he cant keep them from scoring 50+

Well the B1G is 13-5 in bowl games the last two years so it hasn't been a total lost cause.

And I would wager B1G teams were underdogs in over half of them, plus frequently had to travel further.
