Howe: Noah Fant Looking Out for Himself, And That’s OK

He's not playing in the playoff, so the bowl is just a glorified exhibition game. As a risk/reward calculation, this makes sense; although from a teammate perspective, it's a total dick move.

The solution here is for these elite level athletes to be provided with a bigass insurance policy to mitigate the financial impact of an injury.

From a teammate perspective? I guess. But the teammates can't help him out if he gets injured. It ain't like they'll raise 10 million on a GoFundMe if he does a McKenzie Milton Knee-Burger-Smash. Ask him how things are going these days...

You're more obsessed with me than I am with Kirk, obviously. o_O

Dude, you act like Kirk is some petulant 8-year old being driven around by his Daddy Warbucks chauffeur. He actually knew this stuff was coming down the pike. That he laments it is not a surprise.

We put a man on the moon and robots on Mars. I'm sure we can figure that out.

Broward County Supervisor of Elections says "Hiya".

But, yes, something needs to be done. Maybe start with losing the bowls and just do a 24-team playoff with the top 8 getting a bye. That's a lot more kids that can skip "bowl seaaon", and condense the damn thing back to normal, manageable acheduling.

Thank you. Really a nice view of Noah’s time at Iowa, his hopes for the future. Well written and seems very sincere.

Again, it depends on who you're a bigger fan of: Noah Fant, or the Iowa Football Team. My personal view, and the view of a lot of fans, will be that he quit the team today. I would wager that his teammates have a similar split--some are probably happy for him, some are probably not happy for him. But I'm speaking as a fan here: I view this as a guy who--looking out for his own self-interest, which he has a right to do--quit the team I have loved for decades before the final game has been played. He has every right to. It is understandable on some levels. It is not illegal. It is not even immoral. But it is not something I can support or respect, and it will always cloud my personal opinion of Noah Fant. Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but I'd wager not.

While I do respect your well thought out and articulate perspective, I could care less, another overhyped player and underachieving team.

My Spidey sense tells me that this melodrama and season would have ended quite differently were it not for the tweets of Noah's brother.

Basically good article. Don't understand your swipe at victims though. MSU, PSU, OSU, Catholic Church including Davenport Dioces..which by the way really fought extending statute limitation chages in Iowa and still fight no limits do to money ....want to go back to when the abuse victims would never be heard? Kind of comes across that way.

I think he was gone regardless, but agreed. Noah never partook in the gripping, at least not publicly, and even if he did, he did it behind closed doors, between the coaches and him which is the right way to do it.

I read from someone who claims to be close to the program that Noah genuinely wrestled with this decision, both because he enjoyed being a Hawk and because of the optics of the situation. Take it with a grain of salt, but I've no reason to think otherwise.

Your political leanings have escaped from your ass.

You should shove 'em back up there for the sake of everyone else.

It's not politics, it's economics, jackass. We spend twice as much per capita as the next developed nation and don't even cover everybody.

So kindly fk off, and don't blame me for your own butthurt stupidity.

My sincere reaction is disappointed that he wasnt interested in finishing the season with his teammates, but i get it in his case. I guess, Larry Station, Chuck Long or Ricky Stanzi would poop a tazmanian devil over that choice..but...it is what it is. I don't fault him. I would play. Its my team. They helped me get where i am. He gave us good seasons so he leaves in good graces in my book.
