Howe: Noah Fant Looking Out for Himself, And That’s OK

You're sticking up for his teammates. Do you know how they feel about it? Perhaps he's talked to them and they understand? They are a lot better equipped to understand their teammate's position than are we.

It's a billion dollar business. It's not high school ball.
Again, it depends on who you're a bigger fan of: Noah Fant, or the Iowa Football Team. My personal view, and the view of a lot of fans, will be that he quit the team today. I would wager that his teammates have a similar split--some are probably happy for him, some are probably not happy for him. But I'm speaking as a fan here: I view this as a guy who--looking out for his own self-interest, which he has a right to do--quit the team I have loved for decades before the final game has been played. He has every right to. It is understandable on some levels. It is not illegal. It is not even immoral. But it is not something I can support or respect, and it will always cloud my personal opinion of Noah Fant. Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but I'd wager not.

How has Kirk's use of NFL rumors to enhance his contract or Kirk's hiring of a family member for the OC job despite being unqualified clouded your personal opinion of Kirk Ferentz?

Gotcha. If you’re speaking about your feelings as a fan not speculating on how his teammates feel, I get that. There are different prisms through which to look at it.

Damn you people hate Ferentz. He said he was disappointed Fant wouldn't be playing in the bowl game. Which is what any coach would say. Did you expect him to say he was glad he wasn't playing? WTF? You guys read way more into things than is there sometimes.

Either way you sure as shit better get used to it. Iowa tends to frequently produce early round talent and this is going to become the norm rather than the oddity, for every team, not just Iowa.

Although Iowa is producing more early exiters, it is less able to afford those losses like most of the other programs that have guys leave early. I think some of our guys who have left could have changed the outcome of the following season had they stayed.

Good right up Rob. LIke I said in the other thread, you really can't blame him for the reasons listed. But, I do think it was appropriate for Ferentz to use the word "disappointed" as I do think it hurts the team's chances of being successful in the bowl game and it is not exactly the textbook definition of being a team player. I think that is an unfortunate trait and trend being lost in the amateur game, despite all the logical financial reasons for a given player leaving their team early. Hopefully the amateur game does not get hurt long term by this highly likely growing trend of players leaving early for the pros.
Why? They weren't throwing to him anway!

I wouldn’t disagree with that, but at the same time for a lot of those guys staying another year isn’t in their best interest and that’s what has to come first.

If we want Iowa’s recruiting and talent development to improve this may very well be a not uncommon occurrence in Hawkeye land.Thank you Noah for being a Hawkeye. Good luck to you. Next man in!

Meh , who cares, we're playing in a meaningless postseason game, Fant will be playing on Sundays. The story goes on..................

That is a fantastic article! I don't know if Kirk will come to grips with players sitting out a bowl game though. He's pretty stubborn.

Duh. He's already coming to grips. He knew about this shit way before you did. You still haven't come to grips with your Kirk Obsession, dude.
