We need to erase the stain of the clowns from our schedule because they are a stain and their cyfans at least are low level human beings with an average IQ of about 8.
and we shouldn't have been playing them before...
I won't argue that. They and NDSU have been better than some of the crappy MAC and Sun Belt teams we've played, though.
I've long argued that playing Iowa ISN'T helping ISU anymore. It's a bad deal for ISU at this point. They need to schedule the worst 3 teams they possibly can in the noncon to guarantee three wins and get the extra home gate every other year.
Here are the last 6 years of ISU football attendance, with the attendance for the Iowa game:
2016: 52,557
2015: 56,519, 61,500
2014: 52,197
2013: 55,274, 56,800
2012: 55,361
2011: 53,647, 56,085
The Iowa game does give a bump, and the tickets are more expensive than other noncon games (for some of them) but it's not some huge increase over the rest of the season or other years where we don't play. A 4K ticket boost over the season average doesn't make it worth it financially to lose a game every other year, especially considering it's an early game with good weather where the ticket sales are strong anyway. I would argue not getting piss pounded by Iowa would help later games as well, plus the fact that there is just a better chance of beating a patsy.
Amen. I'd go so far to say NDSU was better than a whole lot of D1 teams. However that doesn't matter to the 'perception' The talking heads who have so much power at influencing opinions when it comes to the subjectivity don't look at it that way. They pretty much lump losing to NDSU the same as Michigan losing to App St or any other school from that level. It's so frustrating how they generalize so much. It takes quite awhile to flip a perception once you've been pigeon holed by them.I won't argue that. They and NDSU have been better than some of the crappy MAC and Sun Belt teams we've played, though.
all the more reason not to schedule them...when they're FCS. I called the NDSU upset a year ago...an embarrassment waiting to happen.

Sometimes you got to look to the past to make an informed thought. I went back to 58 and 68 to give you an idea of life without ISU on the schedule. Any of the two schedules are more appealing that the schedule this fall or the next two falls. I'll raise a question, why hasn't Missouri or Nebraska put ISU back on their schedules? They are after all old college rivals. For that matter why hasn't Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue or Northwestern scheduled ISU? It isn't because they already play Iowa. Here are some recent non-conf games: NW vs Stanford, Wisconsin vs LSU, Nebraska vs Oregon, Minnesota vs Oregon State, Purdue vs Cincinnati, Illinois vs North Carolina.
Below is the schedule from 1968

The schedule is holding back our National Championship resume, and the B1G West and Iowa State are not helping either.
There's no arguing the just win every game you should argument... I think we kinda forget that side of things. If Iowa would stop having the bad losses things would take care of themselves more. It's so head scratching to go from losing to NDSU (as good as they are) to beating Michigan in the same season...Iowa is holding back Iowa's NC game resume. Not Iowa State. In 02, ISU had one heck of a season going in the first half of the season. KF conservatism and fumbles hurt. If BB had more snaps in 2001....
In 2015, they were 1 series away from the playoffs.
You can't have stupid losses. Iowa gets their fair share. My opinion anyway.

You knew they were gonna win in the last seconds??!?!?!??!? Get to Vegas MAN!
Beating ISU is not getting us the in-state recruits. In fact I'd argue the opposite, that beating a UCLA, Colorado, Arkansas instead of ISU might.
Fact is, if we are going to lose a non-con game...it should be to someone respected.
