How The Hell

I'll say it right now. Wadley can play in the league. This, to me, is a bigger travesty than what happened to Desmond King. Your eyes didn't lie to you over the past three years...he really made 4 and 5 star pros look silly. He really did perform at a high level against high level competition. I get the size issue...but how many times when he got in the open...did you see guys dragging him down from behind...when it's a full sprint...I can't think of one.

He's a 2nd and long and 3rd down back that can make the best linebackers in the league look silly. You can play the size and durability card if you want...but how many games did he miss at Iowa...I can think of one or two maybe in three years.

It's a joke...Ryan Leaf and Johnny Manzell will tell you how idiotic these GM's can be...and it happens every year. They have more resources at their disposal...more game film...more workouts...etc. Flat out stupid.
 
The last three backs taken we're a joke imho. I have to assume a little, as the site I use didn't even have a friggin draft profile on them!!!!!! Hello McFly.
The one that did had a best season of like 700 yards against crappy teams.
 
Some GM's, especially in the early rounds, try too hard to prove they're the smartest people in the room. And they start taking players from places Rand McNally couldn't find instead of safe, obvious picks.

Then they find out that everyone knew exactly who their pet "diamond in the rough" was, only to find that everyone else had them way down the board.

When Jerry Krause got the international itch, it marked the beginning of the end of the Bulls dynasty so it happens in other sports too.

That's excellent for Akrum but I was hoping Philly. They have a ton of offensive talent and great offensive minds on their staff and would have the luxury of adding a"secret weapon" type like Wadley

He might have even been a fan favorite with his Jersey roots, granted he grew up in the NYC metro area..

That's why I'm convinced #1 that most people with money didn't get it by being smart. #2 a fool and his money are soon parted.
Some of those picks, not just running backs, I was like wow, you own or work for a team, but wow, absolutely wow.

Which is why many GM's and their jobs are soon parted. It's not quite as easy as drafting fantasy teams.

Red Auerbach, in his sixties, was fleecing NBA general managers, and all their bells and whistles, half his age because he was one of the best evaluators of talent in the history of sports. He didn't need the modern metrics of the time to prove he was smart. He just thought Kevin McHale was better than Joe Barry Carroll. And he was right. And he got Robert Parish in the deal to boot. He turned out to be better than Carroll too. Golden State, who had to deal with Magic and the Lakers in their primes, wasn't relevant again until the run-TMC days of the nineties.

How the heck do you even get a job in football, when it's as if you don't even watch or care about the game??

Yeah, I was hoping the JETS would take him as the JETS are my favorite NFL team.

I’m not surprised at all that AW didn’t get drafted. He can’t run between the tackles which means his role as an NFL back would be a 3rd down running back. There are tons of guys that are faster than him and can do things in space. Look at the kid the Bears drafted last year out of a small college. There are plenty of guys that had great college production that just couldn’t translate it to the NFL. I think Hawkeye fans had serious blinders on here with AW or just don’t fully understand the NFL game.

I do understand your point, but you have to realize that he got in the open and made space against college players, 99%+ of whom won’t play at the next level. NFL DBs and linebackers are so much faster and smarter in pursuit than college kids it’d make your head spin. As far as the “pros” he played against that he made look silly, you’ll have to qualify that. I’m not saying he didn’t but that’s a big stretch.

Wadley would make much more money over his career if he went Canada and would play longer. I love the kid and I’m proud he was a Hawk, but it’s true.
 
The problem for a guy like Wadley is that it's hard to see where he fits in on a 53 man roster in an age where nobody returns kickoffs and the passing game is king. He's not big enough to be an every-down back. If he's good enough to stick in the league, he'll be discovered. If not, Canada is a fine place to live.

Hey, at least he didn't get drafted by Cleveland.

The hawkeyes and D1 teams have 85 schollies and let's say 10-15 walkons and iirc NFL teams have a 53 man roster. A 2 to 1 ratio which means nfl GMs and scouts have to get it right or whither and die on the vine. Players need to be versatile their first couple of years on the squad.

Wadley can return kicks, what about punts, can he play gunner on punt coverage and on kick coverage. He could be very explosive in these two roles. He can be a receiver on 2nd and 3rd down as he has proved this.

Is he a full time running back on first down, maybe behind a top Off line, but not with a poor or avg line so I doubt it is his role.

So in the end he will have to prove his worth to hold down one of only 50+ spots based on his versatility.

Let's see the Titans have D Murray and one other top running back iirc. NFL is tough especially on running backs, Shonn Greene had a few good years but then boom it was over.
