How obvious is it that Ferentz wants McNutt to hold the records?

Right away during KF's presser this week he starts it off congratulating Marvin on getting some of the records. You didn't see that last year w/ DJK, did you? I'm asking, because I can't recall.

This week, they pull of a ton of bubble screens (something Iowa hasn't gone to in a long, long time) and ends up with 9 catches.

Now he holds the record for yards in season, TDs in a season, yards in a career, TDs in a career. Just missing receptions in a career and season. I think is 8 away from the season record, and maybe 12 for the career (someone help me out). I think that's righ
Yes, it's true you want the ball in the hands of your best player, but I also think part of KF wants it to be McNutt in the books replacing all mention of Mr. DJK. Kasper holds the season record, if I remember correctly.

Maybe I'm crazy.

People are naive IMO Spank. People buy in to this "aw schucks" crap that Ferentz tries to portray. I agree with your post 100%.

They are targetingarvin more because of the unproven other WR's and a new QB that went he gets rushed he looks for big #7 to make a play.

DJK was great but he played with Marvin. If it was only DJK I'm sure his records would be higher but yeah.

All those who think DJK is such a bad guy needs to chill he was a normal college kid making dumb mistakes now hes going to be I cfl reppi IA

Wow this is funny. We b***h when our coaches don't play to win and last time I checked the FB coaches for dummies manual it says get the ball to your best player. We killed Coach Fry for not using Timmy but kill KF for using MMcN and Coker too much. Now we get out our DJK colored glasses and complain about going to MMcN too much. Don't get it.

xanex. it works.

I am confused by this comment, why shouldn't the coach use the best players at their position, Keenon Davis has over 500yards receiving, CJ now has over a 100yards receiving, McNutt moved into the top 10 nationally at #7, with a 6.7 reception avg per game, he got 9 receptions saterday, i beleive he as just one game that hit 10 reception, so this is stupid to even suggest a thing, face if KF was interested in records McNutt would be avg over 10 receptions a game not less than 7, also he would not need 9 receptions against Nebraska for the all time reception record
lets face facts MM is the best receiver we have had to date, so stop these silly accusation that KF is trying to get MM all the records
he actually is earning them in a basic offense nothing more

Marvin McNutt is a playmaker. really he is the only playMAKER we have. I think they have realized that they have to get the ball in his hands more.

In order to do so the have manufactured plays to make sure he gets the ball (screens, reverses).

Lastly can we please stop calling the JAILBREAK screen a BUBBLE screen?

The bubble is a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage to a slot receiver. The jailbreak screen is what we ran to McNutt yesterday.

Who's in the league next season, who didn't get drafted last season? Wonder why he is targeted so much....he's a stud, do you guys wonder if OK St fans wonder why Justin Blacmon is targeted so much. As the NFL Countdown guys like to say "C'mon man",

I agree with storminspank. It also doesn't hurt the potential recruits to see that a converted QB has set a bunch of WR records and it took him 3 years if that! Iowa might not be flashy but if you show your a good kid, a good member of the team, willing to work at your craft that the WR position at Iowa isn't all that bad.

There is also a guy on the team that has rushed for over 1000 yards and oh by the way the QB isn't all that bad either. As JVB grows he is starting to find the TE more to. Playmakers are all over the fied, they need to execute better and they could average 40 a game.

@blkngold

We have one dynamic player to get the ball to on offense.

Coker doesn't create big plays out of nothing. He is a good back to gain positive yardage and to grind it out on the ground, but he isnt going to make many explosive plays.

Our TE's are very average at best right now. To call them playmakers is a joke. Hopefully CJ can become one as we move forward, he has the potential. Brad Herman has been benched. AJ Derby would not play at many FCS schools, Woody Orne is not a playmaker.

Davis started out the year pretty hot, but I wonder how much the injury has slowed him down. He has had trouble getting separation against press coverage.

We really have one playmaker to deliver the ball to. We have some solid players for sure and the makings of a good offense, but we lack any true dynamic playmakers able to generate explosive plays consistantly outside of McNutt.

I agree with Storm. I think I made a post earlier in the year that if MM was getting close to wiping DJK's name out of the books we'd see a lot if passes directed at Marv. It doesn't bother me in the least.

Zach Derby?;)

No, Kirk is not going to target a McNutt just because he wants to wipe DJK from the record books. That being said, I don't think he will mind at all if that is the way it plays out. I felt that DJK had a lot of unrealized potential and that is all on him and his laziness. Couple that with getting arrested and it's only fitting if a guy who had never even been a WR before comes here, changes position, works hard and shatters all his records. I don't think too many Hawkeye fans are going to be disappointed when he slips quietly from the last remaining record he holds.

Ferentz mentioned McNutt again today, FWIW.

with MM being near records the question will be which position will Nebby concetrateon stopping MM or Coker
against a sandard defense Coker can run and get good yardage i am not worried about him breaking long runs 6-8 yards a pop will be good enough and throw in a couple 10-20 yarders
or will they set the defense like Purdue to stop the run and MM and Vandy play pitch and catch all day
