How long until Beth takes decisive action

Tonight may or may not be Fran’s last game, depending on possible lower tier tournament. With that said, if he leaves or if Beth pushes him out, hopefully it’s done right away. The longer it’s drug out, the better chance of a potential coach we want moving on to a better program (which are many right now). We all know there are many shortcomings with being the head coach at Iowa at this time, but what’s a big selling point right now?

Crickets from our brilliant Athletic Director. Why is there no announcement, one way or the other? Either terminate Fran or keep Fran.

What in the world is she doing?

It's only 10:30 central time. They probably flew in last night. I'm guessing she was at the game too. If I had to guess if she's firing him she's going to have a meeting with him about it today and any announcement one way or the other would be made late this afternoon. If she's keeping him or hasn't decided yet their probably won't be an announcement. But I'd be surprised to hear something this morning. I don't see her moving that fast.

Just hire a defensive analyst type coach and save the money. He deserves another year just with the incoming class and what’s coming back
This is a long-shot, but Beth has already shown she's not afraid to make such a move. She could dictate to Fran in a similar way she dictated to Ferentz. She could inform Fran that "X" coach on his staff is fired, and he has 30 days to hire a defensive specialist coach or consultant; if he doesn't like that option, he can resign or be fired. If he agrees to that plan, he'll stay on with no other changes.
Ferentz still had the fire in his belly to coach at Iowa, and was willing to take the hit to his ego and continue on. Given the opportunity to be closer to his sons in Indiana, doubtful Fran would accept that deal, but I like the idea that it forces Fran to do what he clearly has been unwilling to do during his tenure at Iowa, to the detriment of the program. Just like Ferentz was unable to see the failure of his son as OC. Force their hand, and see how badly they want to continue to coach at Iowa. Genius.

Woodson decided he was stepping away at the end year. Last time I checked Fran has said he is coming back. My man wants his money…I don’t blame him.
Respectfully, I don't think that is what happened. Indiana asked him to retire and he said yes and they negotiated a "retirement" settlement of some sort behind the scenes. He knew the handwriting was on the wall. Indiana is trying to win Big Ten titles and national championships and has the money to do it. I'm not really sure what the heck Iowa is doing, frankly. I would think having the lowest attendance in 60 years would have precipitated a much faster timeline by the notorious B.G.

Indiana is going to hire McCollum. It's all over their message boards and some top experts are reporting it. They are way ahead of Iowa. The narrative in Indiana is that he is the next Bob Knight. High praise....

Notorious B.G. didn't move quickly enough and she will lose out on the best prospect, McCollum, but maybe she will get DeVries. She's known for a long time that she would have to buy Fran out or negotiate something with him.

I hope I'm wrong and we get McCollum, but I think Indiana will outgun us. That leaves DeVries.

At this level in these times, there are the quick and the dead. Notorious B.G. appears to be the latter.

ROFLCOPTER...

McCollum was never going to come here, my friend. Any money Iowa offered him would be immediately outbid by a basketball school like Indiana.

Hmmm...go coach in the biggest dumpster fire program in the B1G with 3,000 people in the stands, more visitor fans than home fans at times, in an archaic arena, for less money and a fourth of the NIL money you'd get at Indiana...yeeeaaahhh right.

Some of you people who think a guy like McCollum would be a sure bet because he happened to be born in Iowa City are out of your gourds.

Fran says he coming back. He wants his 4 million. BG just can’t make Fran acquiesce the way Indiana did with Woodson.

Sure bets don't exist. I readily admit that.

Iowa overall is doing reasonably well with NIL, but isn't allocating it to men's basketball. That could change with the right hire. Even if we cannot get McCollum, there are other qualified coaches.

I'm not ready to give up on Iowa basketball. I simply think we need a new coach after 15 years.

Sources: Iowa is set to dismiss Fran McCaffery after 15 seasons. He reached seven NCAA tournaments in his 15 years and is the school’s all-time leader in wins with 297. Iowa finished 17-16 this year.

Again, without WAY more money to pay players, what happened this is year is going to continue to happen no matter who the coach is. Until you get NIL competitive the issue is mostly moot. It's a different world now and people need to realize that.

Fran deserves it either way. He ran a clean program to the best of his ability with what he had to work with. Both parties signed the contract saying he was worth that much. I don't feel he should accept a lower retirement offer if he's given one.

I was wrong it leaked out and it's a done deal he's been fired. Multiple outlets reporting it.

Agree.

B.G. acted. Its official. Time for a new coach.
