How does this D stop Robinson or Martinez?

There are Michigan fans who aren't even convinced that D-Rob will be starting at QB by the time they play us. It has become painfully obvious that the guy just can't throw unless it's a huck to wide open receiver downfield.

This. He's effective as a thrower when he can play off his running ability, which is more limited this year because of the kind of offense that Hoke would like to run. D-Rob seems to kind of be in no-man's land right now.

I'm no HN legend...but I don't think our D WINS us many games this year. I think they may have get better and have some decent games, but the O will have to be the one to win the games for us. IMO

Seemed like the DL took better angles against Persa, Watch for the draw, or Spy someone like Kirksey on him the whole game.Hit him hard and often!!

Persa is way scarier to me than either of those two ... sell out to stop the run, let them throw all they want

Exactly, Persa is a much tougher matchup for Iowa, or anyone else for that matter.

I actually like the way we match up with the other two.

Our D is small but fast and Martinez and Robinson cant throw with any consistency.

Another factor could be weather including wind. Mich michst game wind was big factor. If a one demential team. Playing perza helped he is dual threat others are more single

Well last year we did fine against denard and mich. Its not the one dimensional running quarterbacks we have problems with, its the elusive one's that can make plays through the air but still have the ability to run that our D can't stop.

More worried about Cousins. He can pass. Edwin Baker can run. Worthy and Gholston can rush Vandy. MSU is the most balanced team left on the schedule, and that will be the toughest for the Hawks to deal with.

None will be easy, but D-Rob and T-Mart do not worry me like Persa.

Robinson is a good passer when he has time and Iowa will give him plenty of time like they do all QBs. And Robinson does not have to worry about Iowa bilitzing so he will be able to get comfortable in the pocket. Michigan will put more than 40 on the board against Iowa. Martinez is unable to pass but he will still gut the Iowa defense as well as their running game will.

Our defense just is not very good and Norm doesn't do much to adapt but maybe he can't? He knows one way to play defense and only one way. He just does not blitz very often...same old same old.

Hmmm. Serious??

No, he's not. Ask any Michigan fan. Many of them don't even think he'll be starting at QB in a couple of weeks. He can't throw. I can't emphasize that enough.

The only thing that's getting old are the complaints about blitzing. Watch some other football games every once and a while. Michigan blitzed the crap out of NW and gave up 435 yards. When we blitzed on Saturday Persa went right to the hot read with great success.

If I am Parker I want Robinson throwing from the pocket. The DLine needs to drive the OL right into the QB with a Bull Rush, just like they did against Northwestern. But Iowa has got to figure out a way to stop 3rd and long so they can get off the field. They were only able to force NW into ONE 3 and out all game and there were 5 drives of at least 10 plays. If you would have showed me the Team Stats without watching the game I would have thought Iowa got blown out. You cannot give up 16 out of 22 3rd down conversions and expect to win the game or 495 yards.

Hopefully Parker can make some adjustments against Indiana and Minnesota or even those games will be an adventure. If Iowa plays defense against Michigan the way they did against Northwestern then it will be a long day.

The same way our defense stopped NW :). We won the game and held them to only 495 yards, 38 minutes of possession. They were only 16 of 22 on 3rd down and we held them to only 72% pass completion rate.

Teams aren't going to catch the football every time like NW does. As long as we tackle people after they catch the ball for 6 yards we'll continue to stop people. Then you hope that they drop a few when they are wide open for 6 and 7 yard passes.

Yes, what the oracle said above...and below:rolleyes:

Really well-played TEAM D. Everybody has to know their assignments ... and everybody has to EXECUTE them!

Also, guys at the LOS really have to do a better job of keeping blockers off of the guys stepping up in run support. Against guys with the speed of Shoelace or T-magik ... the guys who fill don't really have the time to also shed and get a body on them. Too often, when guys are trying to shed ... they're getting off a hair late ... and they're forced to try to do arm-tackles ... and that ain't gonna cut it.

The good news is that at least the Hawk D still has time to continue to improve at playing assignment-ball. We'll see though ....

Note that "quality" of tackling improved immensely from previous game. That will be another key.

Frankly, I don't worry so much about teams with "superstar" types, I worry more about teams that have a wealth of talent across the board (see Wisconsin). UM or Nebraska? It's going to be pretty much a "Contain their QB". Wisconsin? Good Lord, where to even begin!

Seriously you stop them by making them try to pick up first downs through the air.

This.

BOTH quarterbacks present MUCH more favorable matchups for our defense than Persa/NU...

IF we can force as many 3rd & 4+'s as we did against NW, we will fare MUCH better...Neither team is good at dink & dunk...
