How Does Eno's Exit Affect Other TX Commits? We asked.

Obviously there is a lot to the story that has yet to come out. And these kids play with matches and then cry when they get burned. There are no easy answers. Kirk needs better players, we all agree on that. So it's up to Kirk to go get those players. Will it be easy? No. But that's why Barta gave him his own Island; Jet; Yacht; Choo Choo Train; Taj Mahal; solid gold jacuzzi and 34 million dollar pension. The idea was, he's getting paid to outwork the competition. But a large number of people on this board have said Kirk hates recruiting and is lazy about it. They've also said the same thing about his willingness to innovate on offense. That he takes the lazy approach of putting everything on execution . . . which means he is hanging his players out to dry when he could be helping them.

Do you think it was a coincidence that New-Kirk was assassinated the day after the contract was signed? I think last year he burned himself out working his ass off to win 12 games. And he didn't want to ever have to put himself thru that again. And thanx to the dumbest AD in history, he doesn't.

lol

In a stroke of irony that shouldn't be lost on anyone, Iowa recruiting coordinator Kelvin Bell has started following a RB committed to Pitt. he is a RB recruit out of Ohio Todd Sibley. And also a Rutgers RB commit Johnathan Lovett

Yeah, that's no surprise at all....Sibley would be a nice get. Former OSU commit. Don't know that I see that happening. So we are ok with this kid's flirty nature with multiple programs but Eno dips his toe in the water and we give him the boot....cool, seems consistent.

I'm of the opinion that Kirk needs to learn from Meyer; Saban; Harbaugh how to deal with these Divas. They're like a Ferrari. You need a mechanic to service their high-maintenance egos every step of the way. Kirk should've gotten in front of the issue and told him that taking visits was okay but he wanted to be part of the process. If Iowa is gonna move upward they will have to find a way to sign several Calloways/Benjamins in each class. As it stands now the only 4 stars who want to play for Kirk are legacies and diamonds. If that stays true Iowa will keep paying Harbaugh money to get Danny Mac results.

The theory behind it makes sense. In a world where recruits commit in the spring but can't sign a letter of intent until the following February, there is a need for fidelity and serious ramifications built on that. Once a player commits at a particular position, Iowa will stop offering other players at that spot for fear of getting too many players at a single position. Verbal commitments require a handshake agreement that both sides will abide by, and the wandering eye of a visit elsewhere is a breach of that promise. In theory, Iowa's rule is how recruiting should be in a world run by NCAA rules that don't match reality.

In practice, Iowa's insistence on verbal commitments staying home only guarantees heartache and hypocrisy. For one, Iowa has no problem recruiting already-committed players at other schools. The two most important players on this year's team -- C.J. Beathard and Desmond King -- were committed elsewhere when Iowa contacted them. Same goes for Josey Jewell and Akrum Wadley. Recruiting isn't done until Signing Day, and expecting your recruits to stop playing the game that you keep playing every day doesn't sit well.

The rules also ignore reality, that the best players want to take visits even if they're not particularly interested in attending the school. In recent years, Iowa's coaches have repeatedly professed their desire to improve the quality of players Iowa is getting. It has shown in the commitments Iowa is landing...at least in July. But the "no visit" rule guarantees that, aside from the most favorable of situations like legacy commitment A.J. Epenesa, Iowa is going to lose its best players in the fall.

Last year -- the first year where the no-visit requirement was in the letter, as far as we know -- Iowa nearly lost Noah Fant when Fant continued to play footsie with Nebraska. Through October, Fant was claiming that Iowa continued to recruit other tight ends, while Iowa was threatening to cut him loose over his continued visits elsewhere. In the end, calmer heads prevailed, and Fant signed in February despite the drama.

Learning to deal with diva players and getting out in front of potential negative situations are two of the most important off the field qualifications for a HC.

Sadly this is where Ferentz struggles the most. As much as I'd like to see the guy fix what is going on at Iowa, there is no defense here. Not only is he not up to par but he is way behind the competition.

Just remember this thread, and all the others about recent recruiting news and the stale offense & etc, the next time you hear KF explain any struggles with "we're a developmental program".

He does basically nothing to attract elite players, but uses the lack of those players to justify problems.

CONSTANTLY blames execution ( the players ). NEVER blames gameplan / playcalls ( the coaches ).

His minions have already forgot. It's just lil ole Iowa, Man!

Why does it always have to be "diva" players? Maybe its just recruits that want to enjoy their last few years in high school and take advantage of something they'll never get. I don't care what anyone says, I'll be first to state that if I was 100% committed to a program there isn't a chance in hell that I'd say I don't want top level 1 programs inviting me to tour their campus or trying to lure me in. Hell I'm no fan of Michigan and hate the program with a passion, but I can tell you there isn't a chance in hell that I'd turn down a chance to allow Harbaugh to personally kiss my ass on a visit only to make it that much sweeter when I turn them down after one hell of a weekend.

We tend to think the visits have to be 100% about football. Maybe friends happen to be taking visits at that same time, maybe they just want to catch a game from the sideline, maybe they just want to go party for a weekend or are curious if there's more school's that recruit like Louisville. It doesn't have to be about being a "diva" it could simply be about them cashing in on opportunities and experiences that they may not get to experience again..

I think it used to be you could only bring 2 others on a visit, and now that number has grown. So you have a point. It's not just a paid vacation. But your friends get to come along as well. Many recruits would probably luv to take an entourage along. Maybe even a chance to help their buddy (teammate) get noticed by the coaches.

Not only that, you have no choice but to lie to your coaches about it if you want to go. I lied to my parents about stuff I knew they would say no to because I wanted to do it bad enough. The only thing that makes Eno dumb is thinking he could get away with it. He probably thought he would get a slap on the wrist. Well worth a party in Arizona with a couple buddies.

I tell you one thing tho. If Eno really wants to come here, he can still figure out a way to make it right. Not easy for a high school kid to do. If he drove up on his own time, looked Kirk in the eye, and said "sorry I just really wanted a free trip for me and my friends. If you take me back I'll make it right", how could Kirk not agree to it? No way a kid would ever do that tho. Especially one who seemed like he had a foot out the door anyway.

Willies tried to come back and a wonderful man rubbed his nose in dog-****. Not saying Willies was owed anything. Am saying that the forgiveness train may not work the way you think.

How do you know Eno lied to the coaches?

Appreciate it. I'm just doing my job as are my friends at HR.

These aren't easy stories. There's conflicting information and the coaches aren't allowed to talk publicly about recruits until they sign.

I've found during my time reporting on recruiting and beyond to keep my mind open and take time to see both sides. Through experience, more things tend to come out over time.
Still a bit hazy on all details.Just thinking what could have been.Who knows? For sure huh?
