How Does Eno's Exit Affect Other TX Commits? We asked.

Nobody has thanked Rob for his hard work. Sincerely, you do a lot and this website is better than Hawkeyereport and Hawkeyeinsider.

Now here's a little excerpt from Kakert's message board.

That front page article is crazy. No offense to Tom Kakert or the Iowa Rivals staff, but wow. Made Eno out to be a liar, not trustworthy, covering up, etc.

Is this stuff for real? Why should a recruit feel like they have done a terrible thing by going on visits in the first place? It's 2016 and that's recruiting suicide. Just openly and publically committing recruiting suicide with that ancient, very myopic policy AND THEN having the balls to blame a teenager for "covering up" and being "untrustworthy" and "paying the consequences" for being normal? That's stunning.

It's 2016 and you let them take visits. That way, you can also make sure the recruit has looked around and is positive in his decision. You don't want guys who have buyers remorse once they get to school because of a stupid policy. So dumb.

Tom Kakert believes in Kirk's no visit policy. It's like a marriage, apparently. Are we married or just holding hands? he says. Iowa's staff doesn't want to be left scrambling if the kid flips....what?! That's why if you have a staff who can recruit and isn't lazy, you keep recruiting kids 24/7, whether they're a verbal commitment or not. You have plans B, C and D ready to go in any scenario.

That is one of the most ludicrous articles I've ever read on Rivals. It's as if Iowa's staff and the Iowa Rivals staff are completely unaware of how big boy recruiting is conducted these days. No clue. Very sad to read.
This times a million.
BTW, didn't Jon basically do something similar to a lesser degree in his podcast?

Appreciate it. I'm just doing my job as are my friends at HR.

These aren't easy stories. There's conflicting information and the coaches aren't allowed to talk publicly about recruits until they sign.

I've found during my time reporting on recruiting and beyond to keep my mind open and take time to see both sides. Through experience, more things tend to come out over time.

Rob, you do a great job here. Jon does too.

Is there any way that Iowa can salvage this situation? Who do we fall back on for RB?

It doesn't look good for Eno and Iowa.

They've been out to see Soko this season. Jordan Rowell is another name. Matt Bowen coaches at his school in Chicago. Maybe they go back to someone like Andrew Clair. I'm sure they've found guys this fall that they like. They also could use it on another position.

I would be fine with them going to another position. I don't know....maybe a playmaking WR? Seems like a slight need.

He's not trustworthy because Iowa found out he took those visits and he still denied it. I guarantee he woulda flipped in the end and probably on signing day just like that piece of crap Karan Higdon did.

Had the kid been upfront and said "Hey I love Iowa, but I still wanna take a couple visits," I bet things woulda been different.

That being said. He is a RB. There are boatloads of RBs out there and it's still early. Toks Akinrabade is a helluva talent and I'm sure we'll find someone just as capable as Benjamin.

I ain't even scared. Or mad.

I'm of the opinion that Kirk needs to learn from Meyer; Saban; Harbaugh how to deal with these Divas. They're like a Ferrari. You need a mechanic to service their high-maintenance egos every step of the way. Kirk should've gotten in front of the issue and told him that taking visits was okay but he wanted to be part of the process. If Iowa is gonna move upward they will have to find a way to sign several Calloways/Benjamins in each class. As it stands now the only 4 stars who want to play for Kirk are legacies and diamonds. If that stays true Iowa will keep paying Harbaugh money to get Danny Mac results.

The theory behind it makes sense. In a world where recruits commit in the spring but can't sign a letter of intent until the following February, there is a need for fidelity and serious ramifications built on that. Once a player commits at a particular position, Iowa will stop offering other players at that spot for fear of getting too many players at a single position. Verbal commitments require a handshake agreement that both sides will abide by, and the wandering eye of a visit elsewhere is a breach of that promise. In theory, Iowa's rule is how recruiting should be in a world run by NCAA rules that don't match reality.

In practice, Iowa's insistence on verbal commitments staying home only guarantees heartache and hypocrisy. For one, Iowa has no problem recruiting already-committed players at other schools. The two most important players on this year's team -- C.J. Beathard and Desmond King -- were committed elsewhere when Iowa contacted them. Same goes for Josey Jewell and Akrum Wadley. Recruiting isn't done until Signing Day, and expecting your recruits to stop playing the game that you keep playing every day doesn't sit well.

The rules also ignore reality, that the best players want to take visits even if they're not particularly interested in attending the school. In recent years, Iowa's coaches have repeatedly professed their desire to improve the quality of players Iowa is getting. It has shown in the commitments Iowa is landing...at least in July. But the "no visit" rule guarantees that, aside from the most favorable of situations like legacy commitment A.J. Epenesa, Iowa is going to lose its best players in the fall.

Last year -- the first year where the no-visit requirement was in the letter, as far as we know -- Iowa nearly lost Noah Fant when Fant continued to play footsie with Nebraska. Through October, Fant was claiming that Iowa continued to recruit other tight ends, while Iowa was threatening to cut him loose over his continued visits elsewhere. In the end, calmer heads prevailed, and Fant signed in February despite the drama.

I hear ya brotha. And you're not wrong. But here's the way I understand it went down: Eno says, Hey Iowa, I want in! Iowa says, that's great but take your visits before you commit. Cause once you do, you are committed to us and we are committed to you. We ain't ' crootin no more RB's. Eno says that's ok, I'm sold on the Hawks!

Next thing ya know, Iowa hears through the grape vine that he visited Arizona St and Missouri. Well, KF is all like, WHAAAAAAAT????? Eno, man, you said you was good. And Eno is all like, yeah, I am. Well that ain't exactly true man. If you break your bond with us then we gotta start lookin at other RB's. Then to save face, Eno says via Twitter: Hey ya'll, decommitted.

Which ain't exactly true. In actuality, he was cheatin and got caught.

Obviously there is a lot to the story that has yet to come out. And these kids play with matches and then cry when they get burned. There are no easy answers. Kirk needs better players, we all agree on that. So it's up to Kirk to go get those players. Will it be easy? No. But that's why Barta gave him his own Island; Jet; Yacht; Choo Choo Train; Taj Mahal; solid gold jacuzzi and 34 million dollar pension. The idea was, he's getting paid to outwork the competition. But a large number of people on this board have said Kirk hates recruiting and is lazy about it. They've also said the same thing about his willingness to innovate on offense. That he takes the lazy approach of putting everything on execution . . . which means he is hanging his players out to dry when he could be helping them.

Do you think it was a coincidence that New-Kirk was assassinated the day after the contract was signed? I think last year he burned himself out working his ass off to win 12 games. And he didn't want to ever have to put himself thru that again. And thanx to the dumbest AD in history, he doesn't.
