How does a coach who has never coached...

i believe one of Fran conditions of taking the job was to keep transfers to a minimum
which would mean "no running players off"
players tranferring out was a major reason why Lick got fired
so Fran is dealing with the hand he was dealt with the best he can

I honestly think any other coach would have recognized the woeful talent he had coming in and built a program with a combination of transfers and new recruits. What good does it do to keep lousy players two or three years waiting for a new recruiting class to fill in talent gaps? Do both. I'm not convinced he has more than about 1 player who would be good enough to play at the level we need to be at. This is after two years. So we're assuming that this 2012 class is going to have 4 starters?

Yes it's incredibly easy for bottom of the barrel teams to all of a sudden upgrade their talent.

Hey Depaul, Texas Tech, Arizona St, LSU, you guys know what you're problem is? You just need better players, why don't you just get better recruits and transfers, what's so hard about that?

I think ISU will be better next year as well. You have a good class coming in, but they will be freshmen. ISU will have freshmen, but also two starters ready to go in Lucious and Clyburn.

I wonder how patient fans can be with Fran. I think he's good but fans get restless... they already are.

Fred is doing a good job of bringing in talent. And honestly, I would take a coach that brings in a lot of talent over one who is a good game coach but can't recruit. But don't you think he needs to shake up his staff after this year? He's a terrible game coach right now, just horrible.

ISU did it.

And it's got them where exactly? They are now the second to last place team in the B12, I guess that's a little improvement.

Conference play has started? Put it this way they have a lot more upside
than Iowa this year and next based on talent alone. Believe your point whether it was easy for a bottom feeder to dramatically upgrade talent.

Whether Hoiberg can get them to achieve to the maximum of their talent level remains to be seen given Fred is still learning on the job.

Hubbard what a joke he's hasn't played a minute for a low level mid major and yet people expect him to be a savior on a BT team LMFAO

If you're losing to Drake and UNI, I wouldn't hold out much hope for beating Baylor, Kansas, Missouri and any team not named Texas Tech.

If ISU does not do well in the Big 12, it will not be because of lack of talent, most will agree more to do with Fred's lack of coaching experience.

You should not confuse the 2..

They are probably the 8th most talented team in the B12 at best. When they finish second to last in the conference it will be a combination of below average talent and bad coaching.

royce ain't gonna be there next year, so unless old freddy can keep the transfers coming, eventually he's going to have to build a team.

I find it funny that some Hawk fans think that because Fred has gotten transfers that he has just quit recruiting. The internet is your friend. Do some research.

will be interesting to see if fred continues the transfer route, or if he changes his recruiting approach in the coming years. still find it highly ironic knowing the pollard quote about how transfers are ruining the sport and then fred builds a team of transfers.

Once again, the internet is your friend.

It is both, they really don't have that much talent and Fred hasn't proven he can coach...we are talking about a team that won how many conference games last season. The savior of Royce White is not paying all that many dividends...they have about as much talent as they did last year.
They have beat nobody...let it go...didn't the only team they beat in the Big 12 last year move to the BIG this year? Please correct me if I made a mistake on their conference win total...it was 2, right? Or did they pull out a third?

Both programs are bad ISU has a go-to guy and Iowa doesn't, that is the only difference between the two programs.

Lusious is not a player that will be a high impact player...he was a role player at MSU, do you really expect that to change?

Clyburn is a good player...I like the young players Iowa has better than the young players ISU has...minus White...I definitely like the Iowa freshman more than ISU's...again where these programs head long term will begin to take form next year.

So, are you going to give up on Iowa this year? What kind of fan are you? ISU lost to Drake and damn near went to the Final 4. They don't end the season after 10 games.

A realistic one. I'm not giving up on Iowa, but I have no delusional dreams of them finishing any higher than 10th in the B10. And Tinsley and Eustachy aren't walking through that door anytime soon.

This guy gets it. ISU has one above average B12 player on the team and he is being underutilized by a coach who is in way over his head right now.

His basketball ability is obviously not the reason he has not seen the court.

Hubbard would have been one of if not the best player on this team but apparently he was not the reformed citizen we were led to believe, or maybe he is injured or ineligible.

Who knows, doesn't matter.

If ISU had a average to just above average PG they would be in really good position. Not saying they would be challenging for B12 champ but they would be a top 5 B12 team.

I think Royce White almost has to do too much. I think he has to rest a bit on offense in the 2nd half due to fatigue. You can't run the offense through him every time and have him bring the ball up the court 40% of the time.

Royce White has only played 10 college games, he is really, really good and seems to have a great feel for the game. That kid still has a lot of room to improve as well which is scary.
